Danni, I sure am sorry to hear that you 3 are a bet under the weather hope you are all feeling somewhat better today,
Feel better soon. Food poisoning is not fun!
will he be okay for a show on sunday?
People that feed raw meat are not feeding rancid meat. If a meat is off it's off and shouldn't be consumed whether it's raw or cooked as the microbes do reach injurious levels.
we had no idea that meat was off as we ate it the same day we brought it.
Understood, my remark was directed more towards Jan's post and his anti-raw fervour! Smile

I hope your cat is on the mend and I know you wouldn't have fed him anything harmful wittingly.
oh ok sorry i mis interrpted it!!
i am sorry didnt mean to be rude.

yes titan seems to be much better and begging to be fed now!!
However, your point is exactly right. As with raw meat, there were ENOUGH microbes to cause sickness even though there was not any way to tell outside of a lab - and the cats cannot tell either. That is the risk of feeding raw meat. I noted it in "your" thread because of the claims that cats have this high level of protection from such illness and, in fact, your cat got frighteningly ill along with you.

(As for my anti-raw fervor, it is based on those who deny the risk and propose it without warning of the risk. That means people have to be warned when the occasion arises, otherwise they will believe the falsehood of there being no risk to cats even though there is a government acknowledged risk to people.)

Now this thread can return to monitoring the recoveries, which hopefully will be very soon. ; )
I'm so happy to hear that Titan is feeling better!!! I'm sure you're very relieved! Have you recovered from your own case of food poisoning?

And I agree with Jan on the raw food issue... growing up with a father who's a gastroenterologist, I was bombarded with stories stemming from various problems that can be caused by eating raw meat. While there may be some benefits, it's not without risks and those risks should be acknowledged so that people can make that decision for their cats having all relevant information, rather than glossing over it. None of the pro-raw material that I've seen has addressed this in any meaningful way. (Does anyone happen to know what the veterinary consensus is on raw food?)
Raw food has some risks to be sure as does commercially prepared food. Just ask anyone caught up in the Menu foods fiasco.

The veterinary consensus is mixed on raw food. As for your father hearing tales about raw food I am sure that was from people that ate it and not cats correct?

Regardless I struggled for three years with Snowman trying to address his IBD issues following veterinary consensus and raw cleared him up in 48 hours. Raw wasn't something I embraced willingly indeed I resisted it for the reasons given here and a few others not mentioned. I just have to stick up for the raw option people.

Best to Titan!
