Shylo has been trying like crazy to hack up, I believe a hairball, she makes like a huffing sound and her body tries and tries and it dosen`t come up. What can I do to help her, besides brushing more often? She is always cleaning herself. It looks painful for her.
I occasionally give LightyLiu some CatLax for her hairballs and it seems to help. If it is a hairball it should come up presently. I would keep an eye on her if she seems to be unduly choking though.
You do not mention how long this has been going on. If it has been more than a day or so, be sure to check her mouth carefully and if you get no benign explanation have a vet check. This certainly can he hairballs, but it can be some irritation or other issue in the mouth - and it may be serious.
Jan, I feel dumb but what does benign explanation mean???
That would mean observing a answer that was not threatening, like a piece of food caught around a tooth, or something that could be explained, but it's not of any consequence.
