I was wondering if markings by that I mean seal or bi color or certain blood lines tend to have a different personality? If any of the breeders have noticed. We talk about female and male difference in personality but have not heard much mentioned on markings or lines.
Okay, just a quote from something I read -
""Torties tend to be sparky & quite out there for Ragdolls
Reds / Creams are super loving & so goofy
Tabbies tend to talk a lot even when eating
Seals tend to be a little snoblike but are very very loyal & you have a friend for life
Blues tend to be a prima donna in their out look as they are beautiful to look at & they know it - they jump from one person to the next with their affection
These are our own observations in our breeding really , I do think colour has an influence on their personalities""
Most agreed and added that they weren't sure on the chocs and lilacs yet as they haven't had enough of them. Nothing said on patterns although the question asked was almost exactly the same as yours. I hope I was allowed to quote that.
ETA I havent read anything on lines affecting personality but surely the outcrossed lines would have some traits from the breed that was brought in (balinese, birman, persian etc).
For personality I dont believe it is a color or pattern thing per se.
Seems to me that it is partly based on the parent and part socializations from a young age.
I deal with traditional lines but this is what I observed:
My seal colorpoint who I bought as a breeder (Lacey) was talkative but not a lapcat and doesnt even like to be petted. She followed you everywhere though so she was ok with people. Lucy is her daughter ans also a seal colorpoint but a very loving cat. Loves to be petted and be with people. Greets guests etc. So I retired Lacey as a breeder and kept Lucy as I believe personality matters.
I also think size and birth order plays a small part in personality too.
The big kitten is more active and seems to like to play more. Also wins a lot of the wrestling matches so confident.
Good question Linda.
I do not believe these associations of temperament to appearance. The most common belief is in "tortitude." But our tortie is the gentlest, laid back girl one could find. I would only pay attention when a breeder was observing something in her own cats. She may have the reason wrong, but have the temperament right.
