Full Version: Flea situation - would you treat?

I've been noticing a bit of scratching with my adults (no Ragdolls) - nothing excessive but enough to make me wonder if fleas had made there way inside (ah, summertime!)

I got out the flea comb last night. Found zero fleas on cat #1. Found 1 flea on cat #2. Found 1 flea on cat #3. I combed them really well. There was a tiny bit of "flea dirt" on cat #2 but between 3 cats I only found 2 fleas. I know there could be more but they're definitely not badly "infested". A couple of years ago it got bad - both MY ankles were getting bit up. So this is nothing like that...

Baby comes home tomorrow. He'll be isolated from the others at first but there could be a flea or two or more in his room?

At this point should I be rushing out to buy Advantage and treating my 3 grown ups tonight? I worry about the pesticide use but definitely don't want a full on flea problem happening. They've all had it applied in the past without a problem. OR since I only combed 2 fleas off them, should I keep combing and monitor before treating them?
(not sure if baby coming home tomorrow would change the best approach in this situation)

If I should treat them tonight - should I also treat baby when he gets home? (it says safe at 8 weeks but I'm still worried?)

How would you all handle? Thanks for the help!
If there are fleas, then you need to treat.
new baby too? i've used Advantage in the past. mine all weigh around 9 pounds. two weight 9 and 1 weighs 10.

i usually buy the advantage for cats under 9 pounds and it works fine. (i don't want to buy both sizes since they're all really close to 9 pounds). should i use only 1/2 the tube on the kitten? (he's 11 weeks old)
The typical kitten dose is .4ml. You could ask the vet for a 1ml syringe to measure. Place a piece of tape at the .4ml mark as the advantage will remove the graduation from the syringe upon contact.
Follow the instructions for minimum age and dosage for the weight - and make sure you do not double up on flea treatments.
New question. I'm getting Advantage and treating my grown ups tonight.

The breeder has Revolution an can treat the kitten today for me (before he comes home tomorrow). She said she'll do what I want but was hesitant to treat him since he's only 10 1/2 weeks old.

Would you prefer he get Advantage tomorrow or Revolution today (I guess the question is whether Advantage is any safer for a 10 1/2 week old kitten than Revolution is)

I'm not sure if I should ask her to use the Revolution on him or not since I'm not that familiar with it. I've only used Advantage and Frontline and it seemed Advantage has worked better for my boys.
