I now have a domestic kitten she plays a little rough biting and clawing, I am considering a ragdoll because of their gentleness, are they really that much different from other cats?
Ragdols are a gentle breed and love company, human or feline. Equally, they can be just as boisterous as kittens as any other kitten. I have Ragdolls and domestics and they all play the same but the ragdolls are almost always in the same room as me whereas the domestics are wherever they want to be. If you work and leave your kitten at home for long periods alone then she will welcome a playmate and a ragdoll would be the perfect companion for her.
I think that each kitten is unique. I have one who used to bite and claw as a young kitten. I am to blame because I used to use my hand to play with him and at times the play would get pretty rough. He learned this as acceptable behaviour during play. I would suggest using a toy, either a feather or mouse on a wand so that she learns that hands are for petting and not biting or clawing. I also think that all kittens go through a stage where they will bite and claw a little during play. My oldest (now 6+ months) does not bite and claw at me like he once did.

So to answer your question, I believe it has more to do with how you raise the kitten regardless of the breed.
