My heart really does go out to you!!!! I will say a pray and hope for the best. If I were you I would pay an extra office visit to another doctor. Just to get an opinion. If you have already spent SO much another bit wouldn't hurt. Hopefully he'll learn not to eat his treats! He really should have been checked on .... I agree. Was this a vet you have used before in the past? I can't believe they would admit that and think it was okay! I am peeved for you.

You trust your animals to people and they should respect that!!!!

Best to George and your family

They didn't admit it, I saw the chart that had not been filed in. The next time I saw the chart a couple of days later it had been fudged to cover the tracks or lack of.....
wow! all I can say is thank God he is getting better. I cant imagine what you have both been through. Such a nightmare. I would never go back there. He really is a beautiful guy Smile
George is just beautiful!!

About 7 years ago, my Simon (now deceased) had major surgery. I remember that he was very content just to sleep away most of the day. I think they get cold because of having so much fur shaved. Simon used to like me to get a sock and fill with rice (dry rice) and microwave it to make a heating pad for him to lay up against. Maybe George would like something liek that.
George is gorgeous, even in his vest! I really hope he is getting better now. Teresa's rice filled sock sounds like a good idea!
Update,

George is a lot more perky and eating more and more everyday!

He still has two drains in his scar but they will come out on Friday. Vet didn't even take his temp last night as he said it was obvious he had turned a corner.
What a relief!

thanks to all those that posted and sent their best wishes!
That's great to hear! So glad that you updated us. Hope you'll stay around and keep on updating us and let us see more pics of George
Yes, that is really great to hear Smile

I hope he keeps on improving. Remember to keep those toys away from him Tongue
First off, I am sorry you are going through this and I hope your little one feels better soon. I don't think the vet should have left your cat unattended for 20 hours it seems too long. If you have bad feelings about your vet go with your instincts and find another one. Please keep us posted on how George is doing.

Fretting....

Our little rag doll George has just had two surgeries, we are a little concerned about his recovery. I will start at the beginning to give the full picture.

Poor little George kept throwing up last week so we took him to the vet. They gave him some anti nausea tablets and sent him home, however this didn't cure the problem. Another visit to the vets ended with the vet saying he needed further tests and might have IBS, hmmmm.

Our beloved George has his favorite toy, a little plastic mouse that has white hair on it (just like him!). He loves to rip them to bits. I remember that the other other day I found the remains of said plastic mouse sans head. I got on to the vet straight away and yes, you guessed it, he had in fact swallowed the head of this plastic mouse. Wether he actually swallowed the head intentionally for 'inhaled' it in his excitement will never be known but the net result was surgery to remove it.

Surgery seemed to go ok and, although a bit groggy and slow, George seemed to be making a good recovery. However a few days later his temp would not go down (39 degrees) and appetite was not returning. Vet said lets keep an eye on him. After a few more days it seemed obvious that he was getting worse and and vet then conceded that there was an infection so more surgery required. Very traumatic for George and us. Surgery revealed that the the infection was a lot worse than expected and that thankfully it was limited to his fatty stomach tissue. Quite a bit was cut out and he was stitched up, again!

This time recovery has been a lot slower he has done very little over the last three days since surgery except sleep (i think he is very very sore). He has eaten and drunk the bear minimum so we have syringed some recovery food into him at regular intervals. His temp is dropping and his eyes are clear so fingers crossed.

are post operative infections common in cats? we haven't been exactly thrilled with the level of care considering how much money we have paid (over $3000).
Whilst in care he ripped an IV line out and was not checked for more than 20 hours because it was the weekend.
And
Should the vet have spotted the infection sooner given that his temp was not dropping? We are not vets but we found a lump in his tummy, the wound was "angry" and it was smelling a bit.
Great to hear that George is on the mend. It must have been a very worrying time for you. Sending hugs to you and George, and prayers for a continued speedy recovery,
