Hi all Smile

My sealpoint ragdoll Jinx has "Stud Tail" it was reccommended to me to shave around the area so I decided to shave his body as well as the weather was very warm, this was about 3 months ago and it has not grown back, even in the slightest :O

Has anyone else ever had this problem? Should he need to go to the vets?
Unless the skin is damaged, the fur will grow back, although perhaps slowly. If you are being literal, then a vet visit is a good idea.

(You got bad advice. There is no need to shave for stud tail. You wash the area with Groomer's Goop or Dawn Dish Liquid, perhaps several times, and then give a complete bath.)
Hi Jan

Have been bathing him with "Grimenator" regularly, but it wasnt helping at all. A vet then reccommended to me shaving it is good for letting the air to it and keeping it clean. We even built him an outdoor run to let him get a bit more fresh air. (Good to hear I wont have to shave him again though, if it does grow back Wink)

I will book another appointment for the vets to check out his coat not coming back.

Thank you Jan Smile
No matter what you use, do not clean the entire coat until you take care of the stud tail and oily areas. If you try to clean the entire coat, you will just spread the oiliness everywhere and have a total mess. You first clean the areas of oiliness with the products I mentioned until the oiliness is out (taking as many rounds of treating, working in and multiple rinses as it takes) and THEN you shampoo the entire coat.
Oh gosh yes, thats what I mean, sorry, should have clarified. I think he'd loose his life if I tried to bath all of him Big Grin It doesnt seem to clear it up though, but does help slightly.

He is booked in for a visit to the vet on Thursday, to try figure out if there is some under lying problem as to why it isnt growing back.
Grimenator does not seem to be geared to oiliness, which is what is needed and why Groomer's Goop and Dawn Dish Liquid are the most common products recommended for stud tail.
Will try them Wink thanks for that Jan xx Any idea where I can find them?
Dawn is at the grocery. Groomer's Goop is in pet supply stores - or on the internet. You can also get Goop, the version without pumice, at auto supply stores and the like, since it is basically a hand cleaner for auto mechanics. There may be no difference in the product except packaging. It became part of show baths by breeders and then the company decided to market a product targeted for that.
