I am new to this forum and excited about it! I have read many of your topics and have learned a lot! Anyway, I have a 3 year old female Ragdoll that I believe is a tortie. She has a light body so not sure about that color but for sure has the tortie dark feet and ears. When we got her, I did not know much about the ragdoll colors but am learning a lot here! We just wanted a great pet for our family and heard so many things about the ragdoll. We could not be happier with Maggie and feel blessed she is part of our family! Anyway, I've always wanted to get a 2nd Ragdoll and feel now is the right time. I do want to get a male since we already have a female (I do not breed. Just pets. I spay/neuter as soon as I can!). I've chosen a wonderful breeder but now can't decide on the kitten. She has 2 males for me to choose from. One is a flame mink and the other is a blue bicolor. The flame is available to come home now. He is 10 weeks old. THe blue can come home end of August / beginning of September. I want to go see the kittens and see their personalities, but she is 3 hours away. I've seen pictures of them both and they are both precious. And I've talked to the breeder for many hours and talked to some of her references. So do any of you have any opinions about these 2 colors?
My children are wanting me to get the one that can come home now, which would be good so they could bond with the kitten before they start school. If I wait until September, then the kids will be at school most of the time (I'm a stay at home mom) and won't be here to bond and it will be a quiet house. I want the kitten to be used to the business and noise level of our house. BUT I don't mind waiting a couple of weeks for the right one. I hear so many of you out there say you love the blues! Any flame lovers? And what about mink lovers? By the way, they are the same price. Thanks so much for any advice you may have![

I love the minks and saw them while I was doing my research. My Teddy is a seal bicolor lynx which is the kitten on my signature and Velvet will be a retired breeder and is a blue colorpoint. I vote with your kids and I would get the one that could come home now. Waiting takes a lot of patience. I've been waiting for 5 months for my Teddy and he comes home the end of this month!! I can finally say that in the same month!! Congrats on which ever kitten you choose and I hope you post lots of pics too.
Hi Welcome to the forum

I would love a blue bicolour, so i would say go for that one. But the Flames are so unique in my opinion so they are also gorgeous. I have never seen a flame mink though. Do you have any pictures?
Maybe you could talk to the breeder and ask her to describe the kittens personalities and then see which one sounds like it would suit you best? Both would be beautiful no matter what!!
Be aware that minks are not an accepted variant in the Ragdoll standard. (Mink means the cat is missing one pointed gene and in its place is a sepia (Burmese) gene. This causes the cat to have a darker body than a pointed cat.)
You should choose based on temperament. You will want the most loving, people oriented, active and playful kitten. Meeting them will help a lot. However, sometimes kittens will not act as usual with a newcomer or for a short period of time, so ask the breeder specific questions about behaviors you want and how the candidate kittens show those.
I have a flame and let me tell you he is so loving. He is gentle and has a great personality. If I had it to go again I would still go with my flameboy but then I love my seal point too. Waiting is not for sissies. I guess it goes with what do you want..Good luck.

And this is why I wouldnt get the mink... but thats just my opinion, maybe im fussy..
Is the flame mink mitted, bicolour, or flamepoint?
I'm a visual person, so I need photos. If you need help posting them I would be happy to help.
I would go for the flame mink because I love red and I think flame would be awesome with the darker colors on your other ragdoll.
But then on the other hand, I can see the advantage of waiting for the blue.
For one thing it would help teach patience to your children. Anticipation can be torment but it builds excitement.
And.... I think it would be easier on the kitten to adjust if it didn't have to deal with the "normal" activity of your house when it first arrives because it will be afraid.
Personally, I don't think it would hurt the flame to wait a few weeks before coming as it is only 10 weeks old.
That being said, I'd be in the car driving to pick the flame up

all the while telling myself those things I just wrote above about waiting.
JanBeth - you're so funny!!
I've never heard of a flame mink before -- I've heard of a flame and I've heard of a mink - but not combined....hmmmm.....
It really would be better if the breeder could keep whichever kitten you decide on until approx 12 weeks. That is the usual time the Ragdolls are supposed to go to their new families. Gives them more time to be socialized with their mom and siblings - but there are other who have taken their raggies younger and they have done ok.
Just asking here......you are getting papers with whichever one you choose right? I only ask because it is easy to be taken in by less than ethical breeders.
So.....do you have pics of the potential kittens? I would love to see them. I'm leaning towards the blue bicolor because that's the next pattern I want.......*sigh*

Hi Thank you for the response! I just updated my post with pictures of both. Take a look if you get a chance and let me know what you think!
Oh my gosh!! I love the blue bi!!!!!!!! What and adorable little guy -- still my choice - but then again, I'm not good at waiting either and might go for the flame.
