Hi to all !!

I have just brought my gorgeous new boy Luca home ... Oh he is sweet. Poor little thing is still coming to terms with his new home and hasn't come out of his carrier yet. We have him in a bathroom with lots of goodies, a new bed, kitty litter, scratching post and more...Lol. My kids got so excited (ok and so did I !! Smile and each choose a gift for him ... They are struggling to understand why he doesn't want to run around and play with them Smile

When I was leaving the breeders home I asked her if Luca was likely to react to the cat urine smell in the carpet of my boys bedrooms at the front of our home. Our previous male cat (originally not de-sexed) that we took in - now in heaven - sprayed there as there was another male cat around. Long story .....

Anyway I thought I would ask you if anyone knew how to get the old cat odour out of carpet? I would be prepared to buy any product as it really annoys me. I live in Australia.

Also do you think Luca (de-sexed) will spray over this area? I so hope not....

Thanks
Hi,
I think bicarbonate of soda is very good at removing smells from carpets and rugs, you could give that a try. Alternatively, you could try one of these companies that come and clean your carpets, they usually have products for removing stains and pet odours. I a assuming you have them in Oz? Hope this helps.
The only thing that will work is an enzymatic cleaner. The original of such products was melodiously named Anti Icky Poo. However, there are many versions now and one or another will be at almost all pet supply stores or pet supply internet sites. It is important to follow the directions carefully, particularly the one about making sure the area dries very slowly - which gives the enzymes time to work. It may take multiple attempts and cats can smell very small remnants, so be thorough.

You can also overspray the area every few days with Feliway, although that is a rather expensive alternative - but better than having the newcomer induced to overmark the area.
