I'm a bit worried today. My parents have a DSH cat that came as a tray when i was in primary school. I think we've had Mink for about 12 or 13 years now so i've pretty much grown up with him.

As you can see in the picture below Minky is HUGE. He LOVES food! He is normally such a placid cat and he just likes to wander around our street and sit under all the cars. (My parents live in a cul-de-sac so there is not much traffic at all) For the last 3 of 4 days he hasnt been himself at all. He hasnt been eating, hardly drinking or moving. My dad couldnt find him the other night and he didnt come inside for his dinner. and only discovered in the morning that he was lying under a bush outside. He still hadnt moved when he got home. My parents just thought that he had eaten something bad and he would be fine in a couple of days... They brang him inside to keep him warm and he has been laying in the same spot on the lounge for the past 3 days.

I went over last night to visit him and it was really sad. I brang over a bowl of water and he drank lots of that. But he wouldnt touch any of his cat food. We even tried ham as that is his favourite. He just meowed because he really wanted it but couldnt seem to it it... just licked.

I've finally convinced my mum that he is not improving and she needs to take him to the vet. So they are going this afternoon.

I am really worried about him. Does anyone know what could be wrong with him with the symptoms i described. I hope they can fix him.

I'm so sorry Meghan, it doesn't sound good does it. I do hope they are able to find out what is wrong and put it right for him. He is a huge cat!
Any change of behavior of that sort requires a prompt vet visit. Hopefully it will be something transient or easily treated. There is no predicting a cause, particularly with a cat who is allowed outside where there sources of problems are so much higher.
Minky is huge!! I hope the vet can find what's wrong and it isn't too bad. Please let us know how he gets on on Meghan.
I sure hope everything goes well at the vet and there able to help him.
Let us no how it all goes.
I'm so relieved to see your parents took Minky to the vet. Hopefully it will be something easily diagnosed and treated. It's such a worry when they're not themselves, especially when they're not eating.
Sad Any news? He could have heart problems due to his weight... Poor guy!
Hi Everyone,

Good news on Mink. My mum took him in on Friday afternoon and the vet couldnt find anything really wrong with him. He was very dehydrated though and had a couple of fleas. They just gave my mum some electrolytes to syringe feed him and some revolution flea/worm treatment and said to bring him back in if there was no improvement.

I've spoken to my sister today and she said tht Minky is nearly 100% better. He's started eating again and walking around like usual. We're just guessing that maybe he ate something bad and that cause him to feel sick and stop eating and drinking for a while and that made him dehydrated. Poor little thing - well big thing Tongue

thankfully it wasnt anything serious like heart or kidney problems. He is a big cat but its more the size of his frame than weight i think... As you can see in that photo he has got quite a large head but he's not really overweight. i'm just squishing him up a bit Tongue
I'm glad Minky is doing well now. I've been watching to see if there was an update on him. He's a beautiful cat and I love his name.
Thanks Dorothy. I will have to go over one day and take some proper pictures of my cats at my parents. We have 'Mink' and a seal siamese girl named 'Coco'. i grew up with them so i really miss them now that i dont live at home.
