Well last night was a bad one. I was on my way out to a meeting and my boyfriends friend (who is an electrican) was coming over to put a tv antenna point in the bedroom for us.
He had gone downstairs under the house to have a look where all the cables were and I had gone down to say "bye", "thank you" and "please make sure you dont let the cats out when you come back inside."
Then i walked back up the stairs and inside and closed the screen door behind me.... well I thought that i had shut it properly. i walked around the house and grabbed my things and thought i would check on the door seeing as the cats were hanging around it trying to see what the excitement was underneath the house... and it was OPEN!
what an idiot... straight after i told our friend not to let them out... i let them out!!
so i ran outside, grabbed edward (my ragdoll who is not allowed outside) who was at the bottom of the stairs from the deck. Because he's not familar with the outside, he didnt go very far, or run very fast. So i put him back inside and MADE SURE i closed the door, then ventured back downstairs to get Puss Puss. Now she was a stray to begin with so she is very confident outside. We still let her out occasionally because she goes crazy from being inside for too long (i worry too much about her though, so we are letting her out less and less).
When Puss Puss has had enough with the inside she very annoyingly sits at the doors in hope of someone to come in or out so she can sneak out past them ninja style. there is no use going outside to fetch her because she just wanders around the front yard, but stays just that TINY bit out of your grasp if you go to pick her up. so frustrating!
So this is what she was doing last night but it was weird... she was just walking around the back yard, teasing me.... but then walked over to this raised garden bed we have... that has palm trees and other bushes in it....
She had stopped still and was staring at this branch hanging over the wall of the garden bed. I was trying to keep her calm so i could quickly snatch her up and bring her inside but it was weird... i wondered why she was staring at this branch so much... her head was about 15-20cm away from the end of it. i was just about to go for the grab but then i thought.... what if that was a snake... it was dark so i couldnt be sure. i was thinking "dont be silly, there are so many branches like that in this garden bed" but i was still a bit funny about it.... So i threw my shoe at Pussa and she moved backwards but then went towards the "branch" again. i went to grab her so she backed off and shot off in the yard and scaled the fence and went into the front yard.... ran after her - with one shoe but had no luck and just thought that i'd let her have her run around and i'd bring her in when i got back....
Then i had to get my shoe.... i walked over to it, but then was too chicken to pick it up cos it was very dark and i thought it might be a snake. so i went inside to get a torch from the kitchen, babbling to my housemate that im scared that the branch was a snake so im getting a torch. I walked outside and down the stairs and shone my torch at the "branch" and two eyes reflected back at me! ahhhhhhhh! oh my goodness it was a snake! went over to get a closer look and shone my torch at the rest of it and it was MASSIVE. about 2 and a half metres long. yuk!
at this point i was freaking out. I was meant to be at my parents house to leave NOW for a meeting but i only had one of my shoes, there was a snake in my back yard (a massive one) and my cat was running loose! my housemate came outside grabbed the torch to look at it and i ran inside to ring my mum. i was in a hurry, grabbed my phone called her said what was happening. she told me to spend a couple more minutes and try to get pussa inside and she would wait for me. as i walked back into the hallway i saw that i had left the door open again!! how could i be so stupid! i ran around the house searching for edward hoping that he had be oblivious to me opening it. But of course he was sitting at it when i came in wanting to be outside with everyone else. i threw my phone on my bed... ran downstairs.. edward was just standing at the bottom of the stairs again and pussa had come back to look at what he was doing outside.
i finally got him inside. locked him in a room and went to see if my shoe was retreivable. by now the snake had turned around and was slowly moving away from the bright torch being shone on him. My housemate grabbed my shoe for me while i tried to get puss puss again. he told me he would keep an eye on the snake and make sure pussa stays away so i could go...
was so stressed at the meeting that something had happened. I got home though and both cats were inside and apparently the snake had moved to the neighbours yard. thank god.
what a hectic monday night and what a way to start off a week! ahhh!
sorry for such a long post. I always get carried away with them.
