Has anyone successfully treated their cats' feline acne? What did you do? My snowflake has this & I want to avoid taking her to the vet's office. She has a ceramic food and water dish which was recommended, I give fresh food and water daily as well as keep her food dishes clean. What now?
A vet will be needed if there is any sign of infection - and it is important to have a vet if there is ANY chance of that.
You can clean with warm compresses and then scrubbing with a rough washcloth using moderate pressure. You can also use peroxide. In general, this is a stage and cats tend to get over the bouts of it.

I also called her vet, and he advised me to do the same, and also apply some neosporin.
Thanks again !
Ours had it and the first thing they made us do is change the food dishes to either stainless steel or glass and they are to be put through the dishwasher or washed each day. We did that and then they told us to use baby wipes or washcloth and wash them daily at least. It took awhile but she is spotless since doing all that.
Good luck.

The feeding dishes I use are ceramic, and they are cleaned daily, but I didn't know about the baby wipes.......
That is just what ours said. We changed all the dishes and it seemed to have worked and it was dishes we had used for years. Who knows why they get things but I am sure you will conquer this.
Our Sage had just a little of this for a couple of months at around 2- 2.5 years. Our vet looked at it last visit and thought it was very minor and did not advise any treatment unless it persisted or got worse. We have always used a ceramic water dish that gets washed every other day and is rinsed and refreshed every day. The condition has since cleared up on it's own.
Our kid had this quite some time ago now. We were introducing a new kid at the time. Tho she was not agressive and very receptive to the newbie, it did stress her to the point where she rubbed, obsessively, all over the house. She was marking with her endorfins (sp) and that is what they thought was causing the outbreak. After a few months, she settled down, rubbed less and we did clean her chin area daily and gently brushed it a bit. She's never had it since nor have any of our other kids. She also prefers eating from the floor no matter what size or shape the dish is. She's a dry kibble kid and paws it up, over and out of the dish to eat of the floor so feed dishes weren't the cause of her problem, stress was.
Who recommended ceramic? I've always heard it should be steel. Even at that if your cat is prone to chin acne she may still have the occasional outbreak.
I would also recommend using a flea comb on the area as it really helps clean up the area. This is in addition to the other recommendations.
