I know that lilacs are "rarer" than other colors as it is recessive -- but I've had this going on in the back of my head for a while, so I'm going to ask....

Samantha was sold to me as a blue point - but she's very light compared to the other blue points that I've seen (in person and in pictures)-- almost a white body, and when she is in the light, her fur sometime has a purple tint to it. Then I saw Mary's post of her son's (daughter's? Sorry can't remember) lilac cat, Zoro, and I'm thinking -- gee -- he's colored exactly like Samantha. Is there a possibility that Samantha could be a lilac? Her father was a blue lynx point mitted and her mother a seal point mitted......is there a genetic possibility?
I could easily check this to see if I'm right, but don't lilacs have pink paw pads?
Wellllll...after reading your post I went to read the breed standard - and you're right - they are supposed to have lavendar pink nose pad and foot pads...so I checked Samantha's foot pads, and they are purpley looking - definitely not black, but her nose looks black - but then so does the nose on the posting of Zoro.....so....does purpley count as lavendar pink??

It truly doesn't matter to me, but it's just always been there since she's so light and has that purple cast to the white in her fur.
Unlikely to be lilac and the photo makes Zoro look blue to me. If you want to find out, you can get Samantha DNA tested by Dr. Lyons. The lighter a blue is the "better."
I don't care what color she is really -- it was just floating around there in my head so thought I'd finally ask it after seeing Zoro. I actually prefer the lighter body color myself -- so I'll just put the issue to rest.
Now you've mentioned this T I thought Dusty was more lilac than blue.
I checked her paw pads and they are pink and her nose is pink. But the nose might be pink because she is a bi colour? Her body colour is white with a couple of 'beige' patches. He 'mask' is beige darkening the a light grey closer to her ears and her tail is a mix of grey and beige. I know she's a 'put together' raggie from a back street breeder but she's my put together lol.
You're like me Jan -- we don't care what they are, we love them, but it does niggle at the mind a little when they don't seem to conform with the color we've been told they are. Dusty is much more white in the body than Samantha too I think which would make you think more so of her being a lilac.
Mistys blue is a very browny blue - not at all like Bobbys blue-grey, and her tail definitely has beige in it - but then she is also a 'put-together' raggie from a bad breeder.

Personally I wouldn't care if she was pink with red stripes - shes my baby and shes beautiful!!

This is just how pointed cats are. Some have better contrast between body color and point color than others. There are SEALS that have lighter bodies than some lilacs. That is not how you identify the colors - and sometimes it is really impossible without a DNA test. In general, color identification is done by looking at the darkest parts of the points, which most fully expresses the potential/genetic color.
I'm not trying to belabor the point - I don't care if she's a blue - but I thought I would at least show what I'm talking about.....a pic of her pads and I'm not sure if you can see the pink her fur or not - but I can...it's definitely more pronounced in person:
