Hello,
When I got Charlie from the breeder and he came home he became very ill within 1 day. He started with breathing problems, mucus, eyes were closed shut, not eating, and so much more....He was rushed to the vet and to make a very long story shorter it is assumed that he has feline herpes ( FHV-1) and maybe some other complications. He was put on meds and has made a recovery ( is in a remisive state for the time being) and happy and healthy. It took about a month and for a while neither the vet nor i thought he was going to pull thru.
I was able to track down some of his sibblings though the breeder was very uncooperative. Unfortunatly his brother and sister both passed away from the same complications as Charlie when they were 8 months old. Charlie turned 1 in January and is living a normal healthy life ( right now). A good diet and constant attention is so important to him staying healthy. I must admit I will always have the fear of when this thing will break out again ( and it can) or if he may be FIP positive ( it is highly possible), but for now he is just a picture of health. His eye is pitted but his vison is good. He is loved so much and is living a happy life.

He is awesome gorgeous, I was sorry to hear about the sibblings. The breeder should feel bad. I am so happy you found him., when I found JACK, the lady who bought him abused him badly, he was fed table food at 2 months and thrown out side, He had tape worms, conjunctivitis, and uri, and constipation, among so many other things, about $500 at the vet put him back in good health., Jack is now 8 months old, and loving life like Charlie, I did contact the breeder in Fla, and she was upset, I had him neutered and up to date with all vacinations, and the breeder told me she had a contract with the lady who bought him that she would show proof of desexing at 6 months old ...The breeder gave me contacts and references that had bought her ragdolls under $400., to prove that she was not a back yard breeder. I had great feedback. he was not $700 but she was not in it for a business she only had 2 males and 2 females. Jack and I are lucky. thank you for sharing,

this is Jack at 6 months I hope it shows up. Linda
His eyes are not gold, they are beautiful baby blue
Oh Linda Jack is stunning. You are both so lucky to have found each other. I have kept up and read all of your posts and read about the story of how Jack and you became family and I truely believe it was just meant to be from the get go just like Charlie and my family. If I am not mistaken Jack came from a good breeder correct? Charlie came from a very bad breeder who WAS ( I called animal control in Canada ) and worked very hard with them both from nyc and many trips to Montreal to shut her down ( they were sickend from the condition of her animals). He was over $700.00 and came with papers! That just goes to show that you do not always get what you pay for! I know that Charlie may not have a long life but I am totaly commited to makeing his time here with me as happy and healthy as can be. Day by Day. Jack is adorable!
I'm sorry to hear about everything you and Charlie went through! Poor kitty! However, to put your mind at ease on this point at least, it's very, very, very unlikely that he has FIP. Even if it were a very drawn out case of the dry form of FIP (which my Petey had), Charlie wouldn't be acting so fully recovered and healthy. While it's possible that he has some level of the feline coronavirus in his system, many, many, many cats do and this is not a diagnosis for FIP (the titers (tests of levels of the virus in his system) aren't able to distinguish between FECV and FIP, which is a mutated form of FECV). So I just wanted to put your mind at ease for that.
In terms of feline herpes, has your vet given you lysine to add to his wet food? That can help to prevent recurrent outbreaks.
Sarah
There is a new chewable Lysine it is called Vetri-Lysine. All four of my cats eat them and think they are a treat. I think it's easier then adding the supplement to their food or water. If your cat is doing fine you probably don't need to add them. But if your cat has another outbreak this works great to prevent.
I didn't realize Charlie was that sick for a while. I am so glad he pulled through, and I am so sorry about his siblings. I'm glad he has you to love, and you to love and take care of him. It can't be easy always wondering how he will feel. Charlie is beautiful and I hope you have a long and happy life with him.

Yes Charlie has been on Lysine for many months now, but I must try the new chewable. He is also on a great diet. You all are so wonderfull and careing. Both his siblings passed and had an autopsy done. They were both FIP positive.

I treasure the time I have with this guy, and I realize his fate may never be the same as thiers.
I know this is an old thread, but I had no idea what you had been through. I have been so caught up with my own problems with Coco that I haven't been posting that much. Can I just say that I think you have done an amazing job with Charlie and he looks a very happy healthy cat.
