I have a bit of a dilemma .. I am going to the US next year (San Diego & Las Vegas) to visit family for 6 weeks – the date hasn’t been confirmed but it will be between June - September. I have a couple of friends who I would trust to watch Humphrey and Missy, but unfortunately none are up for the job, as they too will be travelling that time next year. I have been contemplating hiring a cat sitter? Or even having Humphrey and Missy be placed in a caring centre thing for the 6 weeks .. but I am a bit worried because I wouldn’t know these people, and wouldn’t feel really comfortable doing it, and I wouldn’t want to spend my whole holiday worrying about them and thinking if they are being taken care of.
Has anyone ever heard of a breeder taking the cats back and taking care of them for people? I mean it’s a long shot – but a girlfriend mentioned it to me this morning, and its got me thinking – but I don’t want to ask Kerry that just incase she turns around and says “uhhmm never done that before”
If not – does anyone have any ideas on what I could do? I would send them to my parents house, but the parents are coming on the trip as well – so I’ve got no friends who are up for it .. and no family who staying behind to do it .. so I’m in a bit of a hole at the moment !
Starting to think maybe I shouldn’t go .. because I don’t want to worry
I do know of one breeder that takes some of her former kittens back and "cat sits" them when the family is going to be travelling. I don't know if that is common among breeders or not. You have time, keep asking around - friends who have pets - usually one of them will have a reliable pet sitter that you may be able to tap into. You have plenty of time between now and then to check them out. Maybe hiring them in for a weekend you'll be gone??
you can send them down to me LOL.
sorry no ideas honey im sure ull figure something out
Teresa,had some great advice.
the only thing I would add is you could ask your vet if he or she boards or can recommend someone.
It's good you are starting now to look .Like Teresa said you have planty of time.
Hi Ladies,
Thanks for the advice - the only reason I am asking too much questions is because I want to know all my option haha. Hopefully it all works out when its closer to the date - even sent an email to Humphrey's breeder if she'd be happy to take him as well as Missy for 6 weeks

Or I could just send them to Danni haha

I would be happy to take them both... Especially if Humphrey gives me the smooches like he does to you

I just get lots of meowing and cat crazies when i get home. (i think he sneaks some cuddles in bed too)
you most definitely can send them to me :-D LOL
The breeders I know are reluctant to take kitties back especially if you have several cats some not from them. It's usually a question of the cats having their own germs and all (sorry the words just don't come to me in English this morning). I discussed it once with Cyrano's breeder and she said she wouldn't want to risk it as my kitties are living in a closed evironment and would probably be more prone to catch something at her place (as she shows a lot). She wasn't wrong as when Ebony came both boys became ill very shortly afterwards (nothing serious but still).
Diwan's breeder who lives closer offered to cat sit them... Whereas I like her, we're not that close and I know she doesn't completely approve of their diet... So I never took her up on her offer. Maybe if we were closer... but I rarely get any answers to the emails I send her so...
So now when my parents can't cat sit, I ask the person in charge of the maintenance and security of my condo building (she lives also there) to come once or twice a day depending on how long I am gone.
That said if I had to go for as long as you, I'm not sure I would ask her. It's really a long time for them to be mostly alone. I probably would try to find a boarding kennel and take the time to make sure they will be fine there. Those people have a lot of experience, they should be able to catch very quickly if something was wrong with the kitties.
