Hi All,
Just wondering what your opinion on the difference between a colourpoint ragdoll and himalayan would be?

Thanks!
hi ruthann
over here in the uk the himalayan is called a colourpointed persian.
in the 1930's someone, in the states, wanted to breed a colourpointed persian or initially a longhaired siamese and so they outcrossed a siamese with a persian.
originally like the persian, the colourpointed persian or in the states a himalayan would have had a more open face, but of course they have a flatter face today.
himalayan are nothing to do with raggies it is a completely separate breed.
Here is a good website which shows the difference between the Ragdoll and Himalayan and also the Ragdoll and Birman.

Since I now own a Raggie, I have owned Himilayans and Persians. Actually my wife once owned a Himilayan when I first dated her and I will tell you this much. Himilayans are sort of a Persian in some ways but usually not much so as extreme pushed in face as Persians goes.

They do have a very sweet disposition and are quiet. However, like Persians, they do need regular grooming due to their long fur. If left unchecked, they do mat. Himis come in a variety of colorpoints (blue, seal, flame, etc...) while Perians come in solids and torties. My Persian tortie did have a pushed in face but not as extreme as show quality Persians (which I find them unattractive). Persians also have the same sweet disposition as Himilayans do. When I had my Persian, she needed her eyes wiped clean daily as well as grooming. With the pushed in faces in Persians, mine tend to snort because of her sinuses.
Thank you! The reason is that I have had Himalayans as well and if your Raggie kitten is not mitted...what would be the physical difference? I think from what has been posted it could be fairly subtle, as my Hershey looked like many cats here. He didn't have the pushed in face, but the doll face. He did need intense grooming, although my flamepoint Himalayan Chloe had very rabbit like fur which makes me think she was more like a Ragdoll. Interesting!
A ragdoll is a non-extreme breed meaning that there is no such thing as a "dollfaced" ragdoll. They NEVER have squished in noses (those that do are not pure). Their fur is soft and requires little grooming, its usually tangle-free for the most part. Some lines have persian in them so they require more brushing than others, but for the most part they're maintenance-free as far as grooming goes.

Himis are smaller, reaching about 10lbs at maturity... ragdolls are large, averaging 15-20lbs even the females. A himi's eyes arent always blue, they can have green eyes too. A pure ragdoll ALWAYS has blue eyes. Ragdolls do shed, but when they do, the fur is so light that it stays on top of things and a damp rag is all that you'll need to lift it. A Himi's fur is heavier and will embed its self into everything.

I hope that helps.
They are both long haired, blue eyed, pointed cats. Other than that, they are not alike and it depends on what characteristics you are interested in knowing about. For example, the head shape of the Ragdoll is a modified wedge and the Himalayan has a roundish head. The Ragdoll has the appearance of a flat plane above the forehead and between the ears, while the Himalayan has a domed head. The list goes on ...
Perhaps when I get have my ragdoll and once he is grown I will be able to readily see what you are talking about. I will ask the breeder when I see her on Sunday to show me the differences on one of her adult cats. Thanks!
