Im sure this has been asked in the past, so forgive me for asking again......but is pet insurance a good idea or a waste of money?
How exactly does it work? Do you pay all cost up front and get reimbursed? Or do you just pay whatever they won't cover.?
If you do get it, how do you know which company and policy is the best one?
Im so confused. lol.
We don't carry insurance on any of our pets. It is cost prohibitive for us. But I would research the Terms and conditions and understand what they mean. Many exclude pre-existing conditions. For example. If your cat developed cancer during a policy term it would be covered to the extent of the plan but when you go to renew it may not be covered because it is now a pre-existing condition.
From what I've heard, there really is a big difference in coverage and terms between different carriers.
We don't have it. If something ever came up, we could pay for it. If it was something big and expensive, we have the credit.
I haven't seen a plan that looks worth it.
Hello -
I have never bought pet insurance, but I have a close friend who had it for their Golden Retriever. The premiums were high (I thought) and their Golden did end up having major health issues. After she was finally PTS, we looked back at all the bills they had that were not covered and the premiums they paid, and we figured it was an absolute wash. They did not save anything by having the insurance. And they had to fight with the insurance company near the end to pay for things that were clearly covered.
Unless others have good experiences to share with you, I would say to take a hard look at why you want to have it.
I was thinking of looking into because, oddly enough, we're offered pet insurance through my employer. My dog owning friends at work haven't taken it though.
You are thinking of looking into because, oddly enough? How does it so??? I was also offered pet insurance through my friend. And also my dog owning friends at work haven't taken it though.
