Daisy's breeder said she only recommends Revolution and suggests using it even though she does not have any parasites.....

What do you all think? Revolution is a bit pricey and I have no dogs, no inside/outside cats. I am going to be getting another kitten in a few weeks from a different breeder but they know each other.

Thanks for any input. Smile
Hmm I don't treat mine for external parasites. They never get out and are not in contact with other pets. I only deworm them regularly (twice a year for adults, every month for babies) and check for fleas the days after we went to the vet. I don't see the need to put those products on them if the risk of catching parasites is close to nil.
I'm very good with the flea comb if any should try to get to them Big Grin
Discuss it with your vet. It depends on local conditions, not just that your cats are indoor only.
I do treat with Revolution. Mosquitos are so bad in my area and carry heartworms for cats, plus using Revolution means I don't have to deworm, and also I don't want to worry about fleas as I know I can bring them in from outside and my husband is very allergic to them if I ever get them in the house!
wow, I didnt know that about repelling mosquitous and such....they are awful here too. I live in South Carolina.....the summers are horrid. Of course I dont plan on taking my babies outside but the bugs do get in from time to time.

I will discuss it with my vet. Just out of curiosity how much does it cost you to treat two cats once a month?

This is an interesting topic, since I just picked up my Interceptor & Frontline Plus for my dogs. The dogs get Interceptor heartworm preventative year round, & Frontline pLUS TOPICAL ABOUT 6 MONTHS OF THE YEAR - IT IS A FLEA/TICK PREVENTATIVE. wE DO NOT HAVE FLEAS, BUT OCCASSIONALLY MY DOGS WILL COME IN WITH A TICK ON THEM. wE HAVE A FENCED IN BACK YARD & A DOG DOOR. (sorry about the caps!) The only reason I use the Frontline Plus is for the ticks here in Alabama. My dogs are never loose to run. My vet tech told me the other day I probably don't need to give heartworm preventative to my Ragdoll because he is strictly indoor. -Although I do see an occassional mosquito in the house. What is everyone elses' opinions? By the way, treating 7 dogs with Interceptor & Frontline Plus is EXTREMELY pricey! (This time I meant to use caps!). Do I need to worm my Ragdoll twice a year, or do you all take a stool sample to the vet to check for parasites?
I have a friend here in Alabama with an indoor only cat that died last year due to heartworms. I'm just not willing to take the chance myself.
If the dogs need heartworm protection, then the cats should probably get it as well. If nothing else, the dogs are vectors into the house. The recognition of the need for heartworm protection for cats, including indoor only ones in some areas, is relatively recent.
But did anyone see the news about a topical flea/tick medicine that was making their animals sick? I can't remember which brand , but the main herbicide was poisoning the animals.
That's why I have always been scared to use them on our dogs. I don't like putting chemicals on their skin. I'm uncomfortable using any product and worried about not using any product. But so far so good, so I will not be putting anything on the kittens.
Well definitely don't buy any of the spot-on treatment from just a pet store...that stuff is not good for sure. But buying through your vet or vet supply place is the best. The known ones are Advantage, Frontline, and Revolution.
