hi everyone,
well little titan is really coming out of his skin (figuritively). very energetic. and fun though only cuddly when sleepy but i suppose as he gets a bit older he may become a bit more cuddly.
my question is this 'is it better to feed at set times or leave an amount for him all day'
he seems to only nibble. but i want to do whats best for my munchkin
thank you...and let the debate begin lol
Hmm I guess it depends what you plan to feed them. For Angel I want to transition him slowly from his current usual food to his new diet (well if he let's me as he is more interested in his brothers' food than in his).
So far he only gets kibble so he has a portion that allows him to nibble whenever he is hungry all through the day. Once I put him also on wet food, he will have fixed meal times for those. I feed my adult cats at 7:30 am, 7:00 pm and 11:30 pm... but this depends when you're home (I work long hours).
For now, do what he is used to having. In general one free feeds dry food so that the cats can graze and has set times for wet food meals. It is good to feed both.
I'm glad you brought this up. I free feed dry food, but would like to introduce wet food. My kittens are always ravenous. I am not trying to hog this post, but how often should I feed a can of wet food for 6 mo. kittens, and what kind?
You can feed as much as they will eat in a reasonable (short) time. You will discover when you are feeding too much per feeding because you will have to toss it out. For older kittens being free fed dry, we would usually feed wet twice per day. One can feed wet once a day, once a week or six times per day. It all depends on the dry available and what you want to accomplish.
My breeder told us we can feed her a little amount of wet food 2x a day (morning & dinnertime) and free fed dry food all day depending how much she eats. Usually by the time she's down for the night, there's a little left over. By morning I throw it out and refill with fresh dry food.
how young is too young to start titan on wet food???
im scared he isnt getting enough nutrition. i gave him 30g today to see how long that last he has eaten half of it. usually iv been giving hm a heap to eat as he pleases sort of thing.
I fed Edward wet food straight away. The breeder had started feeding him fresh chicken and mince before i got him home, so just kept giving him that. He was also eating biscuits during the day.
I leave a bowl of biscuits there for the whole day for both of my cats. (At the moment i am actually mixing adult as well as Kitten biscuits. The vet told me to start feeding my DSH "prescription diet t/d" (dental care) because her teeth are getting a bit dirty, but I want to keep feeding Edward his kitten biscuits as he is only 8 months and still growing. Its impossible to make sure they are eating their own biscuits when i am at work so i've been mixing them

...I dont know if this is ideal. But i dont want to hijack your thread)
I think its fine to start giving him wet food now - but wait for the experts to reply as i'm still learning.
I can see that your enjoying Titan danni. So happy for you and all the other new kitten owners lately!! (i'm even a little bit jealous)
Meg
haha meg im that in love with my baby that i may look into getting him a playmate.
alright experts he is only 10 weeks on friday thats why i think maybe its a litle too soon to put him on wet food maybe???
get one! get one! it will be much easier to introduce them when they are both young.
I've been planning to get another ragdoll to play with edward as Puss Puss is alot older and very grumpy (she's had a hard life) She hisses and swats at him all the time. But she's loosening up alot more lately and i've been thinking against it - I dont want to upset her again cos its taken so long to get used to Edward.
I got Edward when he was 9 weeks and he had already been eating fresh chicken. I dont know why there would be a problem giving him wet and dry food being so young.... but yes - wait for the experts to reply
