The escalation in her fear and fighting to be free when you try to give her the pills demonstrate how much better she must be feeling, before she didn't have the energy to fight. Whatever you do, don't give up! She needs to complete the course of anti-biotics to prevent any infection returning and when she is comletely well and no longer needs the pills she will soon forget the trauma and return to the loving little girl taht you love.
You might just want to see if by chance the Pill Pockets work that you can buy at PetSmart and sometimes the vets. Put the pill in it and give it as a treat. I've never tried it, but it may be worth a try to avoid the trauma, to see if it works.
I've tried a greenie pill pocket and she wouldn't touch it. I left an empty one in her food and she ate around it.
There's an emergency vet hospital about 1.5 miles from my house. I think I'm going to take her there and have them do 2 pills tonight. I want to see how they do it and at least that gets an anti-biotic and 1 antihistime into her. I've gotten all of the antibiotis in so far. I know from 'people' antibiotics you can't stop that once you start.
I finally got her to eat a little of the only thing she'll eat, her dry food, from my hand last night. She was so gentle when she did it. She wants to be loved and petted but she's anxious about me now. She actually did a low crawl like a dog does showing submission to come over for a little pet. No face rubs for me anymore though. Won't hop in my lap either, big change.
I gave her a special treat last night. I let her come out to the pool area with me (screened in). She stuck close but only walked halfway around. She likes some adventure but is a fraidy cat. She followd me right back in when I came back in. I gave her a nice play session of Da Bird under a sheet. She loves that. The problem with her favorite game is that I have a water bed and when I coaxed her in this morning to say hello she decided attacking the waves is fun. Luckily there wasn't a leak and she lost interest.
I snuck a pill in with hand feeding!!!
I skipped Sat nights pill. The Vet called for another follow-up late Saturday afternoon and when I described the trauma, and mentioned having the emergency Vet's up the street get a pill into Fay she recommended hiding one in the soft treat 'Purina Wisker Lickins Tender Moments'. She even said it was okay to end the dosing. Of course Faycat wasn't interested in those treats either but after all the attempts at hand feeding I decided to take her food up for a while and when she went looking for it I hand fed her some of her dry food and she scarfed up the pill with it.
She's back to trusting me and following me around. If I can trick her into this a few more times we're all set. She's looking and acting great. Playing and being uber affectionate again. I swear I can feel a weight gain when I pick her up. I think she was dehydrated when I first adopted here.
Play time, she's after her empty paper towel roll again !!
I think you should ask to get the registration papers so that you can look up pictures of her relatives on the internet. When you get them, you can say that you think it would be fun to be able to order a pedigree showing her ancestors, getting them to sign the back of the registration slip to you. That way they cannot see how nice she is and decide they want her back.
The Vet tells me they can't get her back now under Florida Law. She was wandering outside in a place that's very strict about lease laws and rabies vaccines. You have to get them vaccinated and when rabies vaccinations are due the county sends a notice that you have to take to your Vet and the Vet then sends back a signed form to the county. Vet say's Fl law is once I found her outside and paid a Vet bill I own her.
Also, I'm looking at their having offered her to me as a nice gesture because they saw I cared for her. I don't think we'll have a problem. I do want her Vet records . When I have that conversation I'll be mentioning Vet trips and the problems getting a pill into her, not how well she's doing. I don't care about her lineage, I won't be showing or selling her and she's was spayed before I got her so I don't want to appear interested in her monetary value. I've offered to pet sit their other two if they go on vacation.
Time to go, I'm being meowed at for attention again. She's such a people cat.
Have you checked Florida statutes, since I doubt the vet. Otherwise, a cat who got out could be taken to a vet for a checkup and the person would then own him. Makes no sense. Such changes of ownership would usually be available for pets who were in government shelters for specified times and with specified notices and then rehomed.
