Hi -

Well, here I am again needing more advice regarding Molly. I have now had her 6 weeks, and have been going through taking care of various health issues, none of which were disclosed by her previous owner (but were probably the real reasons they wanted to get rid of her).

I am on my second vet (like her MUCH better than the first one), we have taken care of the crystals issue, gotten her on to Hill's C/D dry food, been able to increase her intake of liquids, cleared up the urinating outside the litterbox issues (still have to work on the poo'ing in the tub) and now that she is somewhat settled, it's time to take care of her bad teeth.

I take her in this morning so they can put her under and do all the dental stuff including pulling 1 to 2 back teeth, cleaning, etc., but when they were doing the exam beforehand, they find she has a heart murmur that wasn't there the last time this vet checked her (2 weeks ago) nor did the first vet find it (not meaningful, since he didn't find the bad teeth, either).

Of course they don't want to put her under, and are recommending I take her to a dental specialist who can best handle a cat with a heart murmur under anesthesia.

Can a heart murmur show up that fast?

Can the bad teeth be affecting her heart?

Any guidance in what to do or not do?
Oh Valerie - it does just seem like one thing after another doesn't it? I am so sorry, I haven't heard anything about heart murmurs showing up in an older cat. Hopefully JanH will know something helpful for you.
