She never did break the wetting of the carpet, She continues to wet I`m sick of cleaning and my husband hates having anyone come to the house. I tried feliway plug ins and cat attract litter ,I had new carpet put in last winter and we got her in the summer and she has them smelling awful. The money on solutions seemed like a waste.I put her in the bathroom with her pan at night and if I let her out in the morning before she goes she will go to one of the rooms and wet. Vet had her on valuim, still went. Today I noticed she was crying when in the pan, I think she might have a problem .What kind of test do they do to see if there is a tract infection or something?
They will need a sample of the urine. The fact she's crying while in the pan is a good indication that something could be wrong. Even if the vet doesn't find anything, he should still put her on a course of antibiotics. It does sound like litter pan avoidance, and the fact she has been avoiding it so long, may be because she associates it with pain. You may have to retrain her to the litterbox keeping her confined in a place like a bathroom with her food and litter for a while. Make sure the food isn't close to the litter as cats don't like that. But sure sounds like she has a physical problem.
There are tests (blood and urine), but they do miss infections and a long course of antibiotics seems appropriate. She does need to see the vet and consider that the discomfort may be GI tract rather than UT. It may be a good idea to give a long course of meds directed at each if neither is confirmed - clavamox and then flagyl, for example. By the way, prozac is now believed to be better than valium and other alternatives for cat stress related behavioral problems.
Thank you Teresa and Jan. I just got off the phone and take her late afternoon to the vet. Our vet is not high tech. We live in farm country and feel he is better with horses and cows. Shylo was wetting and is declawed on front paws, we didn`t do it the owner where we got her did it.Vet said put her outside,if she keeps it up. I can`t do that to her .I might have to insist on clavamox and then flagyl and ask for prozac. She was on clavamox before and what a pain to give her she dosen`t like the dropper. Have better luck with pills
You can get clavamox in pill form.
It sounds like how my Sebastian got towards the end. He would wet on our couch and finally got it cleaned and he would cry in the litter and nothing would show up in the blood work or urine test. I asked them to check to see if she is constipated and he was but that is when they found the problem. He has a tumor under his anal gland. When they went to do surgery they found it was too deep and too big.
Not trying to scare you but do ask them to check his bottom as all this sounds so familar.
Well my granddaughter just woke up. My prayers will be with you and I pray for a easy solution.

I think a trip to a different vet would be well worth the extra drive.
Chrysee, I`m beginning to think so after this appointment. Here is what he did, check her temp, well his nurse did, SHYLO`s temp was fine,he put her on clavamox for a week, said no flagyl, because she is not constipated. Then on May 12th they will take her for a day or two for ciptocentesis test? He just listened to me and didn`t even touch Shlylo, He asked, so you think she has a bladder problem. She was crying while in the litter pan. That`s all I know. She always wets on my carpet since I rescued her from a family after 8 years didn`t want her. I`m at witts end and 60.00 later still no answers. I`m unemployed due to bad health and gave up getting my own medicine this month for Shylo, which he thought was foolish. Shylo is like my child and I would do what I got to to make them well. I`m so upset right now I could cry.
I am with you on giving to them over ourselves. They are our children of the furry kind. I hope they find out what is wrong. They put Sebby on Prozac when he was ill and let me tell you what an experience is all I can say.
I do believe in finding the best vet for the babies and sometimes it takes a while. We had our vets assistant and never again will she look at one of mine. She acted uncaring and would not listen when I told her I know my cat and it is not behavioral. So keep searching for the right one if not satisifed.
God bless and I know what you are going through as I went through it in Feb and if I could have bottled the tears and sold them I would be rich. If I can do anything to help know I am here.
Paula, the vet`s assistant did the temperature but the vet did the rest. I asked about Prozac and was told he din`t know much about prozac and would have to read up on it and see what he thinks, I think after a visit like this I need it more than Shylo, maybe I can take one of her valuim. What does everyone think? Am I over reacting or do I let it play out again?
