Hi Everyone,

Humphrey's been making some weird noises .. I dont know whether its gagging or coughing? He just sits there for a bit and looks like his about to throw up but nothing comes out then he stops and acts like normal Humphrey. It lasts about 1 minute and happens probably 4 times a day ? Was wondering if it could be a furball ?

Any suggestions as to what it could be ..

It sure sounds like a hairball. Can you look in his mouth to make sure he don't have any thing stuck on his teeth.I 'm new to being a cat owner myself so I'm not going to be a lot of help here. Cello has not had a hairball yet.I think Jan had mention to some one else to check in there cat's month .I'm sure someone with more experence will check in today and be able to give better advice.

A vet visit is never a waste for some new behavior that worries you.

Do check his mouth and make sure his breathing is normal. You can also press his gums and they should whiten and then very promptly pink up again. That is one check for cardiovascular function. What you are describing could be the way someone would describe a hairball. You might consider one of the ointments for that if you think it the likely cause. It could also be some object in his throat or stomach, some kind of URI or another issue.
