Hi Everyone,
I am a new Ragdoll owner and have been for the past 2 - 3 weeks. I have a beautiful Seal Point Lynx called Humphrey.
I've just taken him to the Vet to get his 2nd lot of vaccines and also to get him microchipped.
Upon taking him home, his become quite depressed and doesnt really want to play or eat. He wont even purr - and my God he loves to purr.
He just seems to follow me around everywhere and has become really really clingy and doesnt like being left alone, and if I stop patting him for even a second he cries and cries until I hold him for ages to make it stop, and if I let go it repeats itself.
Has this happened to anyone elses kittens after seeing the vet? I am really worried his traumatized or something Sad
Any help with how to make it better or how to get him to eat and be happy again would be great.
Thanks in advance !!
Vaccinations can make them feel really poorly for a couple of days and it may be that he is just feeling poorly and wants comforting and you're the closest thing to his real mom right now. How long since you had him vaccinated? Is he at least drinking? If he's not eating and not drinking, how long has it been. Sorry, just need a little bit more info.....
Call the vet and describe the symptoms. If he is alert all the time and can be induced to usual response times, then it is likely a safe reaction to the shots, particularly if they included FeLV or rabies. One big danger with shots is shock, which usually starts very soon and is very dramatic at its most dangerous - straggering, vomiting, loss of bowel control, seizure, etc. However, a lesser shock can start some time later and be less dramatic. Yours sounds a more normal reaction to a "harder" shot, but it depends on how long since the shot and what the symptoms are and you talking to a vet or vet tech will make you sure it is safe to just let him rest.

Hi there .. I only got him vaccinated today (26/03/09) .. I saw him take a couple sips of water but other than that his not putting anything else in his mouth .. I even tried hand feeding him but that didnt work to nicely. I am from Australia so we dont have rabies here so our cats dont get the shot - it was just the usual shot against cat flu. I think it might have been the microchipping part because the needle was really really big and the vet had to really push to get it in the scruff of his neck .. his sleeping with his sister at the moment so hopefully tomorrow morning his feeling better. I guess I can run with it for a few days and see if he goes back to normal .. just being a bit overly worried maybe ? haha .. thanks though SmileSmile
They may feel poorly after getting the shots, but Jan's suggestion of calling the vet and just talking to a vet tech if not the vet sounds like a good one. It would relieve your mind and make sure that things are ok. Hopefully Humphrey will feel better soon. Be sure to check back in and update us and let us know how he's progressing.
Hi Ladies,
Thanks so much for the advice - I woke up this morning and he was meowing as usual to make sure I get out of bed, and happily ate a whole pack of kitten food and played heaps with his sister and his toys, so I am very very happy with him.
I think he was just being a sooky baby and was probably feeling a bit weird from the needle he got.
His helping me type this email at the moment ! haha
I'm so glad he's feeling better. I just saw his pic in the Intro section and he's adorable!!
I'm so happy for you that your baby Humphrey is feeling better. Now you will feel much better tooSmile
