Greetings and Salutations all!
I found this forum while looking up training and health issues for Ragdoll cats.
Wish I had found this site when I was trying to figure out what Peaches was when I found her almost two years ago. All I knew then was I had a kitten unlike any other I had ever had – her fur was so very soft and getting longer, and as a kitten she had bright red ears and nose, and a dark cream tail. As she was getting older, her color began to fill in, and the only type of cat she matched was a ragdoll, although I could not imagine anyone either losing or abandoning one.
I found Peaches in the parking lot at work, up on Chandler Mountain in Steele, AL, on July 11th, 2007. I asked around a bit – never heard from anyone who lost a kitten – and she was a mottled grey color when I found her. It was one of the very few days it rained that year, and we were having a health fair that day – and this small muddy kitten was desperately trying to get out of the rain. She ran around the office building trying to find shelter – at this point I was trying to catch her, being an absolute sucker for cats, and worried that she was going to get run over. She kept darting under cars to hide, and we had a lot of moving traffic that morning. Finally, she ran under a truck, and one of the older kids here for the health fair slithered under the truck in the mud and caught her. As soon as she was handed to me, she mewed pitifully and snuggled into my shirt. I went and found a box and a dry blanket for her, and rigged up a small litter box, and found something for her to eat from the kitchen here, and kept her under my desk for the rest of the day. She was a mottled grey/brown color with some orange spots, so I was thinking “calico” coloring, and her whiskers were burned and melted to within an inch of her fuzzy little face. She insisted upon being held when she wasn’t asleep, by meowing and trying to climb out of the box to get to me. She would nuzzle in and suck on my shirt – a habit she still has today, although it has developed into sucking on my pyjamas as she cuddles up to sleep. I find it endearing, although the wet patches on my PJs are hell in winter.
After we got home, I trimmed off the melted ends of her whiskers and gave her a bath. Much of her mottled color washed away with the cat shampoo. A few days later I gave her a second bath, finally washing away the last of the stuff she picked up by hiding under cars, and she turned out like this:

As she got older, her color expanded from her ears, nose and tail to her face:

Gradually trailing down her back in broad swirls, and her legs in fine cream stripes. Currently, at about 1 year and 10 months, estimating she was at least 6 weeks when I found her, she is a lovely 11 lbs 2 oz, and completely rules my apartment and life.

I look forward to looking through the forum and asking some of the many questions I have about my beautiful baby.
