I found this cat a few weeks ago and turned him into the humane society with the intention on adopting him but I wanted a chance for his owners to come forward as he seemed social and fairly well groomed!

No collar, no microchip and after spending two weeks at the local humane society with fliers posted in nearby pet stores and the vet offices that allowed me to post one nobody claimed him.

He has since been neutered and the vet estimates that he is under a year old. His guess was Ragdoll for the breed. I had never heard of them to be honest but I started using google to look up the breed and found this website.

I thought maybe someone here could confirm it for me or at least have other suggestions on what he might be.

I've always been more of a dog person (4 large breeds 2 German Shepherds, a great pyrenees and a husky) all of which get along great with cats. I also have a 16 year old taby mix that I found many years ago and he's been here ever since! So I'm not too keen on cat breeds but he's such a sweet cat i'm happy to give him a home!

Also his fur is a very silky texture he's kind of floppy when I pick him up, if that makes any sense almost as if you could mold him any way you wish and he'd stay that way! He's very calm, meows A LOT sometimes it seems for no reason! He likes to play fight with my dogs but as far as I can tell he doesn't use claws, just his paw so I think he knows they aren't a threat. He's also very clingy and wants to be held, loved on almost constantly. I thought maybe knowing a bit about him might help determine his breed.

Anyhow... enough babble...here are pics!

Socks is the taby and Dexter is the cat in question!

Thanks for looking!
Obviously, without registration papers it is entirely impossible to say whether he is a Ragdoll or a Ragdoll-looking domestic. The fact that he was not neutered already makes me think he is probably not a purebred, since they are almost always de-sexed before being sold. But he is a very handsome cat. He probably meows a lot now because he's probably a little confused about his situation Sad But it sounds like he is adjusting well already.
Oh isn't he a beauty. Ragdoll or not he sounds like a beauitful big boy. He definately resembles a Raggie, and his nature seems so gentle from what you say. I agree with Chrysee, generally a ragdoll sold as a pet will be desexed first. So he may be a mix. But he sure is beautiful. I have two boys. One is very vocal and one is quiet (except when he's hungry or can't find me) So Dexter could be a vocal cat, or it could be that he's still trying to work out what happened to him. Give him time.

Congratulations on the new addition to your family.
What a beautiful boy and how lucky to have found you!! Ragdoll or not (and unfortunately probably not) we still welcome you to the forum and hope you'll stay around and continue to share pics with us. We love all cats!!

Thank you for the nice welcome and I have been browsing the website in awe of how beautiful this breed of cat is! I had never heard of them before. When the vet suggested Ragdoll as a breed I had to ask him again if that really was a breed of cat.

I've only ever had crazy looking striped tabby cats off the street!

The weird thing was I had been in the process of maybe adopting a pretty Himalayan (sp?) from the local humane society that I saw up there while dropping off some dog food. I had wanted another cat for a bit but I really didn't want a very young kitten. I prefer adult cats and Dexter is just perfect!

I only had to show him the litter box once and he's used it ever since. I still get the feeling he was someones pet. He's never been afraid of being handled or picked up. He craves attention like someone had been giving it to him but I can't imagine the owners not being able to see at least ONE of my many fliers in the neighborhood and at local stores and i'm happy to keep him but I know if one of my dogs were loose i'd want someone trying to do everything they could to find me because I know i'd be heartbroken.

I figure i'll give it a good total of 3 months and if nobody has claimed him i'll microchip him myself.
Rise ,Dexter is just gorgeous(I love that name Dexter).
Looks like socks and Dexter are good friends already from the look of those two on the sofa.
He is lucky to have found you and socks .
when I hold Cello that is how he gets ...like a slinky.
Like Teresa said more pictures and be sure to stick around.
Socks wasn't too wild about him at first but he has been very persistent and would follow Socks around the house. Socks has been an only cat for about 15 going on 16 years aside from one roommate I had for a year who moved in with her cat.

He's actually taken to Dexter better than expected!
Awww how cute! Well it looks as tho Dexter has adopted socks.
Dexter is gorgeous and sure sounds and looks like a ragdoll. Maybe he was a stud boy got out? I have heard of registered breeder's studs getting out and lost. What makes me think that is because he wasnt desexed and he looks a lot like a ragdoll, I have never seen a ragdoll cross look so raggieish; but he is proberly 3/4 ragdoll or something along those lines. Congratulations on getting yourself a very pretty kitty!
Thank you! I think he's quite handsome myself. Although I imagine if he was someones stud cat wouldnt he be microchipped?

I have seen a lot of stray cats in the area but never one like this. We have a few feral cats running around and one is an all white flame point kitten of some kind. I tried catching him a few times even with a borrowed humane trap from the vet to at least get him neutered but he's clever. He won't go near it!
