Hi
I just inherited my son's ragdoll cat, and immediately fell in love with him. That is saying a lot being that I never liked cats before. My problem is he is all matted up and I can't seem to brush the mats out, any help as what to do next? Thanks, from Justme in Wisconsin.[/color]
Hi "Just Me" -- better watch out or next thing you know you'll be looking for a second ragdoll!!
As for the matts -- if they are really that bad, you may have to consider taking him to a groomers to be shaved. Afterwards, with good grooming (which it sounds like you're trying for now), you can hopefully prevent him getting into that situation again.
You may be able to carefully work out the mats with a mat comb like the one at the link below. You push the dull side of the blades against the skin and under the mat, then you saw up through the mat to break it down. However, if they are too bad, then having a groomer cut them out (or your using electric clippers) may be best.

Welcome to this friendly forum,
Like Teresa says, Now that your heart has been stolen by the magic of a raggie lets see how long it takes you to get another,
My dad actually was never a big cat lover but he adores my sisters and I ragdolls,
We sometimes use a dry apploication shampoo to release matted areas,
Its a shampoo that you add without bathing them, its comes out of the can like desert cream,
Our girl got matts around her wound when she was desexed and it worked a treat,
It seems to make the fur slippery and almost unmatts on its own with a bit of help by grooming,
Im not sure how it would work on severe matts, ours only had a couple of matts,
Do not assume this also will work when a bath is given. A bath tightens them and makes things worse.

Thank You, that is what I was afraid of. I try combing him, but he really hates it a lot!! I thought I liked my chocolate lab, but this beautiful cat I have fallen madly in love with!

Thanks Paul, I am going to try that before I get him shaved, he is just too pretty. I will have to post his pic.
Hi Just Me ,I also like to welcome you to this great forum.
For you matting problems ... Fleas can also cause matting. They can create a tangled mess in your pets fur. ...
