The problem is that there will always be an equal or larger number who report the opposite. That is the problem with such anecdotal reports, determination of whether there is a benefit and which pets get any benefit and which do not. The difference for raw meat from most other food choices is that raw meat in the US is known to be dangerous when put in the bowl to be fed. Therefore, the proof of benefits has be overcome the known risk.
Jan,
What do you feed your cats?
Thanks,

I've heard nothing but good about Eukanuba.
Some criticize it for grain content. Our cats do not have any trouble digesting it and we are satisfied with it.
P&G own Iams & Eukaneba dog & cat food, experiment on caged animals to see the result the oils & chemicals etc. make on the dogs/cats...

With respect to IAMS/Eukanuba, this is an old and false charge by extremists in the UK. P&G has also been accused for decades of being a Satanist organization because of a company logo of stars. The nut fringe.
When government approval processes for cosmetics near the eyes, etc. required retesting for safety, there was unnecessary repeated testing on rabbits of products like mascara. That was wrong, was many decades ago and was abandoned. There is much greater appropriate balance now on what is tested and how it is tested. However, these folks seem to have been left with nothing to do after that success and wanted to continue the campaign after it was won. In order to do that, they act as if practices have not changed and complain about the decades old approaches that companies were required to use.
Fortunately, cat food companies HAVE tested using animals over the decades, which now they would be much more reluctant to do even when it is appropriate. Understanding of HCM in cats - and humans - would not have been possible without the experimental colony of cats used to study it. Of course, testing should be humane and really needed. However, I am all for studies that contribute to the health of our pets, including understanding nutritional needs, and are as humane as possible. Such research is important and should be supported.
As for other products, I DO want to be sure that the floor cleaner residue left on the floors is safe for my newborn kittens. I do want to know if the taurine levels in the food in fact avoids DCM. I do want to know if the new ingredient in the pet food for dental health is not going to cause kidney problems as well. If those things take animal experiments to determine, then I am for the experiments - and would want to get a product from a company prepared to find out.
They oppose ALL animal testing. One cannot look to them for information about whether a particular test is appropriate or not. I much prefer animal testing to my having to test on my cats when I take a product off the shelf. There WILL be experiments, the question is whether it is going to be on you and your pets or on lab animals.

It is not necessary to treat their animals is such a cruel and inhumane manner! Of course this is just my personal opinion and you surely have the right to have yours.........
You may believe PETA and this organization, but my experience is that they are not reliable sources of information. From the link you provided "PETA continues to press Iams to ban conducting and funding invasive or terminal experiments on all species and to adopt 100 percent humane, non-invasive, and cage-free "in-home" testing, as many of Iams' compassionate competitors have done."
I am glad if IAMS has not signed up to some PETA supported "good citizenship" list and glad that PETA "inspections" are rejected. PETA has no real concern for animals, as is demonstrated by the manner in which they killed and disposed of cats put in their care. They believe all animals should be "free," which means feral and are otherwise better off dead.
Here is the level of "charges":"Footage shows that Iams representatives toured the facility and witnessed dogs who were circling in their cells and sweltering in the summer heat." What is that?! On a hot day dogs "circled." This is proof of cruelty. Is the idea that all dogs require AC? Does that mean pet owners cannot let their dogs out in the yard on a hot day - if they circle the yard?
These are the nut fringe.
