Full Version: getting fat?

I just weighed Atrus (accurately) for the first time in a while and he seems to be about 13lbs at 10 months. I know that's not an unusual weight at that age, and he doesn't -look- overweight, I think. If I look at him from above he does not have a thick middle, but it's hard to tell looking at him from the side when he's standing if his belly seems big. It doesn't -feel- big, he's just fluffy. It's just much harder to tell his shape than it would be if he was not a long haired cat.

I will probably keep him on kitten formulas of food til 16 months, is that right? Or maybe a blend of kitten and all-life-stages after 12 months or something until then?

He gets as much food as he'll eat (which is not a huge amount), being a kitten and all, and I know cats can generally self manage what they eat fairly well, but if he's this size already should I consider measuring out his food a little more carefully?

He doesn't look very large (not that I have anything to compare him to), so that seems like a pretty heavy weight for his size.

By your description and his appearance, he does not sound/look fat. You can change him to adult food when he is a year old. Really fast bone growth should be over by then. However, he can stay on kitten a bit longer too. If you want to see his body more clearly, then give him a bath. You will be amazed at how much thinner he will seem when his coat is soaking wet.
From the photo he doesn't look overweight.
I have a large Ragdoll too, his brother is smaller, but Caesar is a big boy. But I wouldn't call him "fat" he is just a very big built cat....(spoken like a true mother!)
