On the contrary, just some courtesy provides an answer. (The QUESTION is NOT which is better between getting a pedigreed cat and a shelter cat, because that depends on the person and the household - and the cats.)
Hi Gussie, I am owned by one 7 month old raggie Cello and one 11 year old Great Dane they don't get much bigger then her 135lbs.Cello loves Pebbles and Pebbles adores Cello.
Look Jan, you seem to be set in your ways and you seem to think that I'm saying that its better to adopt rather than buy a purebred.
I'm a breeder too remember. Of course I want my kittens to find homes.
I was only suggesting that they adopt instead of buying because they have already bought a kitten from a breeder, why not give a shelter cat a home? Theres no reason not to. Its not "better" as you seem to think that I've been implying, its just a SUGGESTION.
If she wants to buy a kitten then its her personal decision. I was throwing a suggestion out there and trying to let her know that the OPTION of adopting instead of buying is there. Reminding her that there are kittens in need of homes. I never once said that it was "better" to adopt than it was to buy. I did not mean to imply it. I simply wanted to remind her that the shelter cats are not any less worthy of consideration. That was all. You seem to think that they're not worth it though.
Yes, my kittens were returned. They werent gone for long, and people have inquired about them after they were put up for adoption again. I have turned quite a few people down before I finally decided on one person for one of my kittens.
I guess I need top put some sort of disclaimer at the top of my posts from now on stating that I am not trying to "push" these "unworthy" shelter cats on people.
Also, there are ragdoll rescues out there who probably have kittens with pedigrees as well for those concerned about the heritage. They do not breed the kittens themselves, the parents may come to them pregnant and the rescues get kittens occasionally. **DISCLAIMER** I'M NOT TRYING TO SAY THAT ADOPTING FROM A RESCUE OR SHELTER IS BETTER THAN BUYING FROM A BREEDER!!! I'M OFFERING A SUGGESTION FOR THE OP ONLY!!! I ASK THAT THEY AT LEAST CONSIDER IT, BUT ULTIMATELY ITS THEIR DECISION AS TO WHERE THEIR KITTEN COMES FROM!!!!!!
This is not about the relative merits of shelter cats (pedigreed or not) and pedigreed cats from a breeder. You did not write that she should consider a shelter cat. You wrote: "ragdolls are extremely social and love the company of another cat.. if you do get another cat, please go to a shelter and adopt a nice moggy in need."
I have no idea why you think it needed for you to suggest we consider pets from a shelter when that alternative is well known and most of us have or have had shelter pets. That is why I do not take your comment, even on rereading and in the context of your later comments, as a mere heads up on an alternative to consider. Your comments confirm that it is your preference that you believed should be adopted by her. In fact, there is no reason for her to adopt your view of it and there is no reason to believe that she is not aware of the alternative and would have considered and acted upon it one way or the other without the need for assistance.
It is as inappropriate to try and stimulate guilt about not getting a shelter cat as a companion as it would be to stimulate guilt that a Ragdoll kitten should have only a Ragdoll playmate.
