Hello,

Tonight we came home to find our 7 month kitten with a bloody scratch above the eye, under the fur. It is somewhat faint, and no blood is coming out but it looks as once was. It almost seems as she injured herself somehow when we were gone. Since we are first time cat owners and she never injured herself before like that, would you give some advice? Anyone have any experience with this kind of a think happening to your pets? I am pretty sure its just a bruise she got while getting out of control with playing...and am going to the vets tomorrow for a quick checkup.

Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Steve
They can get scratches and wounds and it is good to have a vet look at it. Watch for swelling or redness, which are signs of infection. If there is no bleeding, then the rest can wait for the vet visit. I see no risk in gently washing or in using neosporin ointment if you have it.

You may want to call the vet and describe the wound and you may save yourself a vet visit.
It seems like its more of an itch that she is scratching, maybe an allergy of some sort, but it is only in two symmetric places above the eyes. Hair is missing and is red from all of the scratching she did. The vet said that we are just too worried, but I think it may be something more serious...hmmm
Did he look at it with a Wood's light (black light)? That is how one finds ringworm, for example.
I do not think he really examined it very carefully. We thought that she fell down and got bruised that way, so he confirmed it and said that this is what happened... It was in one of those free vet clinics thought....so, maybe I should take her to a more professional vet.
I would assume he got it right and just watch to confirm it is healing.
