Hello everyone!
As you know I am getting my Ragdoll around Christmas.
The breeder mentioned that If I want her registered with TICA I will need to pick a name that was not used before. It is some kind of rule or something.
Problem is that the name I like was registered in her cattery before. This is my first pure-breed so I don't know much about the Associations and the rules.
Could someone please tell me what the benefits of registering are, and clarify the name rule thing. Do you think it is neccessary? How many of you registered your cats?
I would appreciate some help :-)
all my cats have already had registered names that the breeder has chosen before i had bought my kitten i suppose it only matters to you if you are going to be showing or breeding your ragdoll
as mine have always been pets they had their registered names and then i would just pick out a pet name that i thought suited them
here are some examples
leviathan casius millway finnegan (pet neam levi)
Jessica Tomays Boogaloo (pet Name Jessie)
kyra tomays love in a mist (pet name KI)
as you can see it would have been a bit of a pain to call them by their long names all the time!!
You can add an initial, another name or your name to the name you want to make it different and just use the call name you want. Two cats cannot have exactly the same name. (Since the cattery name is the first word in the name, this means the name you want has to have already been used for a cat from that cattery.)
Having registration proven to be available is important because the only way you know you have a Ragdoll is to get him from a reputable breeder with papers. However, the actual registration by you is not very important if you are sure the paperwork you get is legitimate.
I have a persian and a ragdoll. they do both have their registration papers. I will never breed them but I did want the registration papers and then I ordered their pedigrees. I just enjoyed seeing where they came from. As long as you get the registration papers from the breeder since that is your only guarantee you are getting a purebread. Considering you are probably spending a large amount of money, you want to be sure he/she is a purebred.
I sent in Moe's registration slip that I received from the breeder and received his registration papers back. I guess I felt that I'd spent a lot of money to have purebred Ragdoll, so I wanted the papers for him as well. He's not being shown or bred, but I guess it was just a personal thing for me.
