Hey Guys! The Mo man has a large knot on his neck. He seems to be feeling fine, was chasing the laser pointer last night. Anybody ever have something weird like this? Thx. k
I have only experienced knots (very temporary), after a vaccination. If it doesn't go down on its own soon, I would go to the vet, just for peace of mind. It is probably nothing to worry about, but I always tend to be over cautious.
Has he been vaccinated recently? If so, did they do the vaccine in the area where the bump is located? Could he have been bit or scratched by one of the other cats?

Purrs,
Stormi
When you say knot - how big do you mean? Simone has a pencil eraser size bump that comes up periodically on the back of her head close to the back of her neck. I've had her checked at the vet 2 times for it and each time he says it is a sebaceous cyst - nothing to do about it and then it eventually goes away.

If it is where he had a vaccination (although none should be given in the scruff anymore) and he wasn't just recently vaccinated, then I would see vet advice.
A vet check is always appropriate for such changes.
I spoke to one of the other vets in the practice tonight. The knot is in the General vicinity of his Adam's apple, so a couple of the working theories are thyroid, and a possible random infection. (lymph nodes) Another possibility involves his bad teeth.

My schedule does not permit taking him in tomorrow, of course, if he shows any signs of distress...the cell phone goes out the window! Right now he's eating fine, was chasing the laser pointer last night, and is following the kittens around like a mother hen.

I'm gonna keep an eye on him and maybe take him in on Friday. I'll let y'all know What we find out. k
Well I'm glad he's at least feeling ok -- let us know how he check out....and are you ever going to post pics here?? (of the kittens too!!)

Jeez Teresa...with 9 kids I'm sure you can understand the delay! Tongue Actually, we're going to cut down our Christmas tree this weekend, and thought that might be a great time to get new photos of the entire clan.

BTW I'm thinking of taking Mo in today. Ever since General's HCM diagnosis, I'm just a tad paranoid. Talk at ya later! k
Good luck with Mo today. Smile
I hope you are getting good news at the vet. Let us know how Mo is doing.

Id love seeing pics too! Smile lol when you get the chance Smile

We're back from the vet. No news to share, really. So far his lungs are clear, his heart, ears, and teeth are good, and nothing in his abdomen. No fever either. All good signs, in my opinion. He doesn't seem to be in any discomfort, and is eating fine.

The vet spent more than an hour with us. They took blood, and took a sample of the lump. We'll know more on Friday. The train of thought at this point is thyroid, although he doesn't seem to be displaying the classic symptoms, as I have read them. The knot is only on one side, which means at least half of his thyroid is functioning properly, in theory.

From what I have read, a very small percentage of thyroid tumors are malignant, and since he doesn't seem in distress, I'm hopeful for a positive diagnosis.

I'm grateful for any insight from y'all out there in Raggieland with a similar diagnosis. Thanks! Kelly
