You all know that I am looking for a new vet , and I had read some were that rags can only have killed vaccines and was wondering if this is true as I know you cant beleve everything you read on line.
It is NOT true. Deciding which to use is not easy, but we use modified live because it provides greater protection sooner and, most importantly to us, does not have adjuvants, which MAY be implicated in shot site cancers. Both are safe and effective for Ragdolls. (Ragdolls are no different from any other cats in this respect.)

Thank you JanH, as I was wondering about this and how much truth it carried.

I am curious, the vet wanted to give the FIP vaccine to my persian last week. They told me it was a dead virus however I held off because the breeder I got my ragdoll from said never to get it. I was wondering what exactly makes this vaccine dangerous. I know not to get it....just dont know exactly why.
It is not a FIP vaccine. It is a CV vaccine and there are many CV strains, this shot being a very small and meaningless subset. It does not help avoid FIP and you have all the risks of a shot. NEVER get a "FIP vaccine."

thanks for clearing that up.
