Earlier I was watching youtube videos of tiny kittens (instead of writing a paper, oops). Well this really tiny scottish fold start mewling really unhappily in one and it really perked Atrus's interest. He ignores anything on TV no matter what it is, but these cat noises from my laptop really got to him for some reason. He stared at me and then went to the windowsill to look outside (I guess he figured if there was another cat it would be out there?) but came back to my desk and generally seem really agitated the whole time it was on. He sniffed at my laptop a little suspiciously when it was over, but that's it. Did it bother him because it was such a tiny kitten sound? Similar to how an infant crying releases a whole gush of hormones in humans? That doesn't sound likely, but it's just weird that he's never even cared about anything on TV before, but these sounds, despite there obviously not being any cat smell in the room, bothered him so much.
That is our experience as well. They often ignore sounds, but some cat or bird sounds will immediately get their attention, particularly if the creature making the sound is agitated. Interestingly, puppy contented or play sounds on the television or computer seem to go unnoticed - even with some barking. (We do not have dogs, but they hear them - and do not like the barks - at the vet.)
Samantha had finally crawled up in my lap the other day - a rare treat for me - and I was sitting so still and watching TV so she wouldn't get down when the doorbell sounded on the TV!! She jumped up and ran in my bedroom under the bed, just like she does when our real door bell sounds. I must admit the one on TV did kind of sound like ours.
Well Milo must spend too much time with the kids ...... cause he loves to watch t.v. .....in fact he quite often jumps up and starts pawing at the screen especially when other animals are on could be an elephant LOL he just loves watching.......he also gets very exicted if he sees a bird outside or if on the rare occassion the neighbours cat deceides to take a short cut through our backyard
Jake doesnt notice the TV, because we dont watch it much. But I know someone who has a cat (not a ragdoll, just a very pretty pure white huge fluffy cat LOL) who whenever he sees the big cats on TV, watches them with intrest. But whenever anything else is on, it goes on without the cat showing any intrest in it.
