My first experience with the red gene has been recent. As well, it was my first mitted to mitted breeding, so I knew all kittens would be cream, which was a plus, but it took me until they were over 10 weeks old, before I was certain of their pattern. I ended up with 3 creams, a bicolor, colorpoint, and mitted.
Our adult blue/cream tortie also took awhile to get color in on her legs, only since she has been a year old, have we been able to really identify where her mitts begin.
This has been a great educational thread.

Purrs,

Thanks so much guys for all of your responses,
It has been definataly an informative and interesting thread,
Its not that I ever had any concerns over Tobys colourings,
But was just interested in how the term 'van" came about,
My breeder told me up front straight away as soon as his colourings could be determined and asked if I still wanted him,
He is such a gorgeous boy and will have the most beautiful unique colourings I feel,

And anyway, how could one say no to this heart melting little face whether perfectly marked or not TongueBig Grin
