I am so sorry for your loss,
It is so heartbreaking when we loose our loved animals,
A new furrbaby will of course never replace dear Thorne but will help your healing process,
The new fury will find his/her own special place in your heart,

I so feel for all of you that have recently lost your loved furrbabies, even just the thought of it upsets me,
Cat lovers are special people and Raggie lovers even more special,

Gosh! I Ache for you Clyburn! I Really feel for you.
I think another cat will also give you a distraction and help you get over it faster. So if you can't wait until February, there are lots of ragdolls for adoption around the US. I don't know where you are, but if you're in the US, there's quite a few on Petfinder.
Lots of breeders also have retired breeders for adoption too. It's not a kitten, but from what everyone on here says, They're just as loveable!
I hope you stick around and post more pictures and stories of your Thorne. Like How did you find yourself at his birth and how did he get to be half Ragdoll?
I'm sure we'd all like to hear about your search for your next "Furbaby" too.

I thought about adoption, but I can't see myself adopting an older cat, especially a retired male breeder, since I definitely want another male. I never seem to click as well with female cats, though it is the exact opposite with dogs, not sure why.

Having lost Thorne, I want to avoid this pain again for a long time, and getting a kitten is my best bet for that. And there doesn't seem to be many kitten ragdolls on around here (new jesrey shore)

WHen I feel up to going through my old pictures of Thorne, I will post more. Right now it hurts too much to see them.
I guess since I am sticking around, It was asked if Clyburn is my name...it is my last name, my name is Chris Clyburn.

It was also asked how I came to be present at Thornes birth and how he came to be half ragdoll.

It's an interesting story...

When I was about 22 years old, I had gotten out of the Army and moved into the apartment my parents owned until I could get back on my feet. My mother did work for a lady who had a full blood Ragdoll named Duchess. This woman did not have here spayed, and let her roam the neighborhood. Well as things happen she wound up pregnant, and this lump of flesh who called herself human, wanted to have duchess put to sleep because she didn't want to her to have kittens, possibly in her house messing up her things.

My mom, who has always been the crazy cat lady of the neighborhood (at one point mom had 20 cats) told this lady that she would take Duchess, so that she wouldn't be put to sleep.

Mom asked since I was between jobs and trying to get back on my feet, if I would take care of Duchess, so of course I said yes, Duchess was a beautiful Seal point mitted.

So I cared for Duchess until the kittens were born and sat with Duchess, petting her through the birth keeping her calm. The litter consisted of one solid black kitten, which was Thorne, one solid white I named Ash, who didn't survive the week :-( , two bicolor lynx looking twins named Bilbo and Frodo, and a little calico whose name I can't remember.

Thorne is the only one who ignored his mother and went to me. He always preferred to be around me, even to the point I had to bottle feed him many times because he wouldn't leave me to go feed. It was very odd, I had never seen that in a cat before.

THe nasty woman demanded Duchess back after the kittens were weaned, and was able to legally force us to return her. BIlbo and Frodo went to my mom and dad, and are still around, They are twins, but Bilbo was as scrawnny as Thorne while Frodo became a tub of lard. The calico was adopted out to some neighbors, who moved soon after so I don't know much about her. Ash died in the first week, he was the runt and very sickly from teh begging.

I obviously had no choice but to keep Thorne, though at the time I hadn't wanted a pet, he didn't give me much choice. Even from the beginning he always new how to get his way with me.

When he was younger he never made a sound meowing, he would just open his mouth and silently meow then when my wife and I got married and Ann wanted another cat, she brought home the mouthiest stray from a shelter. This cat loved to talk, and Taught Thorne to find his inner siamese. After that whenever he lost me at night (he was afraid of the dark) he would Howl through the house, loud enough to wake neighbors until I called him,

That's about all I can right for now, it hurts to do this, but it is definitely helping me.
Wow, Thorne does sound special, and I'm so glad that you're sharing him with us. I think you were blessed to find each other.
He sounds like he was an Awesome Cat! I had a cat similar when I was in my late teens. She would sit on a high shelf above the door waiting for me to come home and would jump on my shoulders as soon as I was in the door! She'd climb my leg to get into my arms. Cats may not be dogs, but they can be just as loving and loyal and those who are not Cat people, don't know what they are missing. Thanks so much for Sharing!
Where at the Jersey Shore? My family used to spend 2 weeks in Wildwood Crest when we were kids and Gregg and I used to go down to Seaside and... was it Seabright? We can't remember the name of the town. IT's over 10 years ago, but we used to go Crabbing, fishing and just relax. Nice place. I'm sure it all changed with all the development that went on over the past 10 years though.
Can't wait to hear more of your stories and how your furbaby search goes.
There are quite a few breeders in New Jersey and don't forget Pennsylvania... You're not that far. If you want help finding some, Just ask and I'm sure we can find one not too far from you that has some kittens. Wink
And Welcome to the Forum.
I'm in Ocean Grove, right in the middle of Asbury Park and Bradley Beach. We moved here about 3 years ago after staying with my in-laws till we got on our feet after college (I graduated when I was 30...bit of a late bloomer)

Jersey has taken some getting used to for me, I'm from Oklahoma and Texas originally and my wife stayed there for a bit when we got married and went to school, but it was too quiet for her, but I find Jersey to be too noisy for me. Ocean Grove was a decent compromise, small town feel, but close to everything.

As for Breeders, I have been looking online and found a few, the one my wife and I seem to like right now is Donna's Dollys, she's listed in Long Island, NY. We'll see how it feels when she responds to our email we sent last night. But I am definitely open to suggestions of any others near me.

We both really love the seal point Raggie, but again it's the personality that is the most important. Donna also breeds a pure white raggie, but I'm afraid that it would remind me too much of Thorne, only white instead of ruddy black.
Donna is a good choice. If she does not get back to you quickly, do not be discouraged, because she just had a tragic loss in her family and is most likely going to be behind with respect to her Ragdolls.
Very Good! Sounds like you found a good breeder! I hope you find the perfect kitten for the two of you!

Bradley Beach Rings a Bell! But then I'd either been to or drove through just about all those towns at some point in my life! I wish I could remember the town though. It had a small bridge, crossing over a little creek , right off the main road everyone drives back to the GardenState on. The little creek was only about 20 feet wide or so. We used to catch crabs by they bucketfull!!!
Anyway, I can't wait to hear about your search.
Well, Can't wait to
