I'm new to the Ragdoll breed and was visiting a friend who just adopted a 2 yr old ragdoll. he's so very sweet and docile -- we noticed that he doesn't seem to climb or jump. he'll stay in whatever room he's in if there are baby gates (he won't climb/jump the gate). I was wondering if that's just him, or if a lot of Ragdolls are that laid back that they won't go over the gate? I absolutely love him. Thanks !!
I only have one ragdoll and not a expert however I believe them to be known as more floor cats and not climbers or jumpers.

Having said that Milo does climb and loves to be up high- his favourtive spot at the moment is ontop of my daughters bunk bed !!Smile he also likes his cat tree and sits ontop of the fish tankSmile

He only jumps when chasing toys really...........but I have to say he can run reallllllly fast!!! He also like to climb up the inside of the screen door and will hang off it for quite sometime until he gets growled.

The kitchen bench and table are also a fun place although he is not allowed and gets growled, yelled at and squirted with a water pistol for this one.
Dolly doesn't really climb or jump at all. I mean, she'll jump up onto a chair and occassionally will climb onto my desk, but that's only because she used to sleep up there when she was a baby... She doesn't really fit there anymore Tongue
Sebastian does not really jump on much except maybe a chair every once in awhile. He pretty is happy and content just lounging around on the floor, the bed, or his basket. He is a master at the Ragdoll flop and will just flop down on the floor or bed and stay there most of the day.
Although they will jump if they want to be there enough, they are much less jumpers than Siamese, for example. They are more likely to climb and do like to be on the upper areas of tall cat furniture.
When I read your post, I thought, wow, wish my girls were like that, they jump on everything! But then read JanH's post and realized he's really right -- mine only jump up and down off their cat furniture. They don't jump on my kitchen counters or table, and the only time they really jump on furniture is when they are having the cat crazies chasing each other through the house.
I agree with Jan and Teresa, ours will climb their cat condo's and such. However, I do have one that is a jumper, she will scale the plantation blinds, our cabinets to get at the very top of the vaulted 14 foot ceiling in the kitchen. She is our only one, that loves to jump and climb. The others are happy to lounge at the top of a cat tree.

I wish mine was not as jumpy. Wink

She jumps and climbs on everythings that can be jumped on or climbed, including curtains, kitchen counters, tables, and is very very active. She is only 7 months old though, so it may be the age.
Moe has jumped the baby gates...that was our first clue that he was ready and felt comfortable to explore the rest of the house when we first brought him home...I don't know if he'd still jump gates now or not. He doesn't jump on anything counter height, but does like to be up high on his condo. If we forget and don't push our chairs in at the table, he will definitely take advantage and jump onto the table using the chairs to get there.
It figures...I just finished posting yesterday that Moe doesn't jump on the counters...and what does he do this morning...he jumped on the kitchen counter!!!! First time ever! Can he read what I'm writing at the computer and do the opposite just to prove me wrong? What a little sneek! Rolleyes
