Hi All!

I recently rescued a Ragdoll (about 2-3 months ago) from a bad situation. He is probably about 7-8 years old and his owners were making him live outside in their barn with another cat. The other cat was bullied and Simon (his new name with me) was not able to eat his food and kept trying to get back into his house, but his owners did not want him in. They were going to dump him in a kill shelter but my vet stepped in and I ended up taking him (long story). Anyway, turns out Simon was hyperthyroid. The poor cat was skin and bones, weighed only 7 pounds (he should be at least 15), and had awful diarrhea (probably from worms and the hyper-t).

I took him to the specialty vet and did the RI-131 for his hyper-t since he was a candidate. That was about three weeks ago, and he is doing well. For the time being I have a huge dog crate set up for him in my foster room, one of my cats resides in the foster room with Simon, they get along very well, I usually leave Simon out in the foster room with my other cat, but sometimes confine him to his crate if I think they need a break from each other. I'm slowing introducing him to the rest of the house, I have 8 cats total, including Simon. It's going okay, but I'm going very slowly and am cautious, as I don't want Simon to feel to intimidated by some of my boys Smile

I am in love with this cat, never had a ragdoll before! I had a Maine Coon years ago before I got involved in rescue and I thought they were great cats, but the raggies are incredible~!

I'm going to try and attach a picture of my beautiful boy...so nice to meet you all and I hope to be on here pretty often reading all about these wonderful cats Smile

How wonderful of you to rescue him and take him in and get him the treatment needed. He's a beautiful seal lynx. I hope you continue to share him with us. Thank you for caring for him!
And they put this beauty in the barn? I am sure he is thankful he found you and wishing Simon a wonderful forever home. You did say, "my beautiful boy", didn't you?
Give you a lot of credit for fostering, has to be tough at times.
Wishing you and Simon well!
Welcome Silliecat and Simon, as well as your other furries. Shy Oh my goodness, Simon is just gorgeous. Thank you so much for giving him a better life, he must be so grateful. How much weight has he already gained? Is he on tapazole now for the hyperthyroid? He looks so healthy and beautiful now, and I commend you for being there for him, and for the slow introductions too. I hope to hear more as time goes on about his story and your other furkids.
Thanks so much for your kind comments! I live in NJ and we had the most awful winter last year, it just breaks my heart to think of Simon out there struggling to survive. But I need to look forward, figure out ways to put weight on him and getting him to play.

I did say my beautiful boy Smile He is not a foster, I used to foster kittens in that room, but haven't done if for years so it's still called the foster room. We hung a screen door in the door way so my residents could meet any new kids I brought in safely through the screen first...it seems to work pretty well.
I can not believe someone would do that even tho I know some do. I am so glad you have the cat now. Sounds like you are doing a good job.
Hi Kris, nice to meet you! Simon was on Tapazal for a few weeks, it seemed to work fine but I wanted to see if he could get the RI-131 treatment which cures hyperthyroidism. It is awesome, I had my cat Teddy treated this way years ago. The Tap only treats the symptoms, the RI 131 cures them. Simon had his treatment a few weeks ago and I can already tell that he has gained weight. I'm taking him in on the 12th for a weight check and labs to test his thyroid levels. Keep all paws crossed!
God bless you for coming to his rescue. My Ozzie is a rescue Ragdoll as well and was in an unfortunate situation but not nearly as dangerous as your Simon. Give him an extra hug for me and keep up your good work.
How could someone put this beautiful Ragdoll in a barn, Ragdolls are not barn cats. I am glad he has a new forever home where he will get the pampered life.
