One of my cats keeps coming into my bedroom and pooping under my bed at night! I don't know which one is doing it. The first time I chalked it up to the litterbox wasn't clean enough, so I went from cleaning it once a day to twice a day. Then I started shutting my bedroom door at night. I don't like doing that - it makes me feel clausterphobic (sp?). But I did close it for the past three days. But I left it open last night and OF COURSE there was a nasty surprise for me when I woke up. WHYYYYYYYYYYY? Both cats have been using the litter box with no problems for a long time. And the litter box wasn't dirty. So why is one of them pooping under MY bed?
I understand your frustration!!!! Even more frustrating that they can't tell you why. I know its not the solution you want to hear but it looks like your going to have to keep your door shut for good. Hope someone else can offer more helpful advise.
Get those under the bed storage totes and put them under there so they can't access that area. Just a thought...
The first suspect in a change of behavior like this is medical and a vet check is in order. Although GI upset is most likely in this case, it could be a UTI as well.

However, also consider other triggers, since the task is to identify and remove the triggers. The secluded location may indicate the boxes are too "public" or another pet is bothering the cat when using the box. A new or covered or more secluded box might be the solution. A box in that room may be the solution for a cat who wants to be there and not leave. Consider any changes before this started, such as a source of increased tension or stress.
So should I put a flat pan litter box under my bed?
try getting a second liter box. I have two for my one cat. I have read you should always have an extra box. Maybe put it outside of your bedroom and see what happens.
I currently have an Omega Paw. I think it's just a regular sized one. I have noticed that when one cat uses the litter box, the other cat waits outside til the other cat is done and then uses it too. These two cats are joined at the hip. They sleep together, eat together, and poop together.
If you only have one litter box and two cats - time to add another litter box. Also make sure you clean the spots under your bed very well, so the smell is gone. Try enzyme products. Rule of thumb (but others don't have problems) is one litter box per cat plus one. So 3 litter boxes in your case. However just try adding one for now. As JanH said may be a different type and in your room or just out side your room for now.
people and litterboxes Wink

really, it is easier to have more than clean up poop from the floor! If i find a deposit somewhere, I just plop a litterbox on top - even little kittens get it... it does not have to be fancy litterbox - just a tupperware plastic bin is good enough... as long as it is on top of the elimination spot.

Try in the room.
