Full Version: How can they do this?

Recently I have been paging through some Raggie breeders on the rfw website.

Don't get excited....just looking, nothing serious at this point. Tongue

I know this question has been raised previously, yet it seems more and more breeders are advertising "rare mink Ragdolls". How can they do this if in fact, minks are not in the breed standard? If nothing else, is this not false representation?

Sometimes, I just feel like sending an email to these people saying you are misrepresenting the Ragdoll breed, or is that just a waste of time?

Thanks for the vent.
Oh, that's interesting. I didn't know it's become so widespread. I don't know enough about breeding to be sure, so everything I write here is only a guess... but I too think that's wrong. Maybe a few breeders are okayed for minks to try and get enough to petition them as part of the breed? Or maybe they've already been told no? But certainly they should not be being bred so prolifically, and it should be clearly noted on the websites that hey are not approved as true Ragdolls. And the few that are bred as experimental (?) should cost less, not more! I think these people are trying to rip off buyers, using the name Ragdoll, just to make money at the Ragdoll's expense. Sad

On another note... nope, not a bit excited, nah-ah, not me. I will be so patient along with you on this journey. Yep. Cool Big Grin (just me, Kris here, trying not to jump up and down...)
P.S. Maybe it's a quick way to eliminate many "breeders" from the list.
There is a HUGE post called "need help explaining litter" that has a lot to do with this. It has some great info in it along with some entertaining heated discussions. X
