How to Choose a Ragdoll

Now that you decided to obtain a Ragdoll there is still a lot of decisions. What color and or pattern should you purchase? Where should you obtain your kitten/cat?
This pet will be with you for 15-20 years so hopefully all will go smoothly from the start.
Ragdoll Colors and Patterns
Standard Colors
All Ragdolls are pointed cats. They have color on their ears, faces, legs, and tail, with a lighter contrasting body color.
- Seal – dark brown
- Blue – slate blue to silver
- Frost – lilac to pinkish beige
- Chocolate – light milk chocolate
Standard Patterns
- Colorpoint – darker color on their ears, face, legs, feet, and tail
- Mitted – same as colorpoint but with white paws, chin, and chest
- Bicolor – darker color on ears, face, and tail. Face has white inverted “V”.

Newer Colors
In 1997 RFCI voted to accept these:
- Lynx pattern – striped effect
- Red – tortie (tricolor) and flame
Finding The Perfect Ragdoll
- Go to local cat shows – meet breeders and see other cats.
- Read the national cat magazines – informational and has directory of breeders
- Connect with breeders on the internet - ask questions and feel comfortable with person
- Check out catteries if possible
Things to Review Prior to Purchase
- Purchase contract – health guarantee, health records, & restrictions.
- Registration papers – when and how to obtain (TICA or CFA).
- Making your home or apartment safe and Ragdoll friendly. – childproof
- Be prepared with crate, litterbox, toys, food, etc.
